Clearlake is a city in San Mateo County, California, on the Pacific Coast. The population was 34,473 at the 2010 census. Clearlake has been nicknamed "The Silicon Valley of the North" because of its role in technology and other industries. Clearlake is also home to Oracle and Facebook. The first European settlers in what is now Clearlake were Spanish missionaries who arrived in 1769 and founded Mission San José de la Esperanza. A post office called Clearlake was established in 1859, but no town took form until 1881 when a group of businessmen named John Fenton bought land north of San Francisco Bay for $1 million. They named their new town after Lake Alameda near Newark, New Jersey (now part of East Brunswick Township). In 1886, George Hearst set up his newspaper company Hearst papers here as well as some manufacturing businesses such as an oil refinery and a fishing net factory. In 1915 he built the first high-rise apartment building in Bay Area history – The Tower at 1010 Market Street – which still stands today. During World War II, many American citizens moved to Clearlake because they found jobs at Boeing or Lockheed Aircraft factories located there during that time period. Many churches were built too: First Congregational Church (1940), Christ Episcopal Cathedral (1945), Presbyterian Church (1948), United Methodist Church (1955) and more recently Calvary Chapel (2006). Civic leaders developed plans for a large shopping mall around this time known as Centerpointe Mall which never came to be due to opposition from nearby residents over traffic concerns and other issues like environmental destruction caused by development proposals dating back to the early 1990s throughout much of Peninsula Cities Association - including Clearlake - despite promises from developers that all zoning changes would result in reduced traffic congestion around the proposed mall site during various planning stages throughout those years with very little realization or delivery ever taking place despite numerous letters received fromResidents opposing any potential development within walking distance of their homes without permits

Clearlake, California is located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The city was platted in 1887 and named after a brook that flows through its center. Clearlake grew quickly due to its location and access to water resources. In 1931, Clearlake was incorporated as a city and has since grown into a large metropolitan area with over 2 million residents. The City of Clearlake is anchored by the downtown core, which contains several large buildings including the Municipal Building, County Courthouse, and Town Hall. Other downtown areas include the historic district around State Street and Harbinger Avenue, as well as new development on Piney Creek Road. Outside of downtown there are numerous small neighborhoods within walking distance of most attractions or restaurants. In addition to its importance for local services and amenities, Clearlake has also played an important role in statewide politics historically. In 1932, then-Governor Earl Warren designated Clearlake as the site of his Presidential campaign headquarters during the Franklin D Roosevelt election run-off against incumbent New York Governor Adlai Stevenson. After John F Kennedy won re-election in 1960 with support from Clearlake businesses and citizens, President John F Kennedy visited the city multiple times while he was preparing for his first term in office. Today, ClearLake remains a major political constituency for both Democrat AND Republican candidates across California’s Central Valley region
Clearlake is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 32,898. Clearlake is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The city was founded in 1879 by John Balfour as Clearlake Springs and was named for Mary Elizabeth clear Lake. In 1909, the name was changed to Clearlake after incorporation into the City of San Francisco. It lost its charter from City Hall in 1959 but regained it in 1972 when San Francisco annexed Clearlake.
