The gift was a warship tender, USS Clearlake (AO-1). This donation helped support the naval shipyard through its difficult times during World War II. In 1946, President Harry S Truman presented USS Omaha (AGI-2) to the naval shipyard as a recognition of their contributions during World War II. This donation allowed the navy to rebuild and modernize its fleet. In 1984, the navy gifted USS Scorpion (LF-3) to the naval shipyard as a tribute to their contributions during World War II and Korea. It was this gift that made Clearlake one of America’s top Navy yards for gifts and donations! Clearlake is an unincorporated community in Tulare County, California. It lies east of the central city of Fresno and west of Visalia. The elevation is 5,912 feet (1,680 meters). As of the 2010 census, Clearlake had a population of 424. It was named after Lake Clearwater which lay to the south. A post office was established at Clearlake on October 10, 1878, and served until it was discontinued on November 6, 1912. The town was reestablished as an incorporated village on February 20, 1959. residents voted to rename their town Clearlake after George C. clearwater Jr., who donated land for the village center and other amenities in 1961

Clearlake was a small agricultural town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States, until it was destroyed by fire on July 4, 1851. The community is now a ghost town and its location has been used as an advertising billboard. Clearlake is located about 20 miles east of Stockton on I-5. The first clear Lake was formed by the melting snow on Mount Shasta in 1848. A second Clearlake appeared in 1850 when a large lake bed intersected the old Sacramento River near present day Redding. The name Clearlake originated from this fact that there were no other settlements within 5 miles of the original town site. In 1851, Mr. Fenton built a sawmill at Clearlake and began to extract lumber from the nearby mountainsides. By 1860, 200 men had located at Clearlake and engaged in lumber production; but by 1870 with only 25 men still living there, milling ceased and all activity ended except for occasional visits to clear away remaining logs for shipment to Tracy mills downriver. Fire destroyed most of Clearlake on July 4th 1851 when more than 1 million board feet (30 m3) of lumber caught fire during an early morning incident at Shasta Dam while being unloaded from barges dammed upriver for export purposes
Clearlake was founded in 1879 by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., on a ranch near present-day San Ramon. In 1888, Clearlake became the first incorporated town in California. The town's name is derived from the Rancho de las Pulgas (Pulgas ranch) where it was located. Clearlake experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to military installations and its ability to ship munitions and other materials through the Port of San Francisco. After the war, Clearlake began to decline as a commercial center and experienced a drop in population between 1960 and 1990. However, since 2000, Clearlake has seen an increase in activity as the result of new development along its border with Livermore Valley.
