The City of Clovis first commissioned a navy vessel when they commissioned the USS Constitution on November 3rd 1851. The city used this commission as an opportunity to promote naval science and technology within their community. Since then, many more warships have been commissioned by the city of Clovis including the USS Enterprise (CV-6), USSworth (DDG-8), USS San Pedro (LHD-1), and most recently, the USS Porter (DDG-71). These ships serve as a reminder of how important each navy is to our local economy and community. Since World War II, naval vessels have also been stationed in Naval Station Lembeh which serves as both a training ground for new sailors and a stop for veterans from all over the world coming to visit US sailors. In addition, Naval Base Lembeh has helped support many humanitarian missions throughout various conflicts around the world such as helping rebuild Haiti following Hurricane Matthew in 2016 or supporting Operation Just Cause during Operation Neptune’s Spear in 1991. In 2019, Naval Base Lembeh will celebrate its centenary with three commemorative events: an open house from Friday January 17th through Sunday January 19th inclusive; Fleet Week festivities beginning on Saturday February 14th; and Marine Day ceremonies taking place on Monday April 12th every year since 1909!

Clovis is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 21,866 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Andreas Fault and is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Clovis was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1848 as a small settlement called Eldon. It became an agricultural center after gold was discovered nearby in 1853 and cattle were raised there until the early 1920s. In 1925, Clovis became the first City of Industry in California when it opened as a sawmill town with its own water system and electric lights. After years of decline due to pollution and other factors, Clovis has regained some of its former prosperity through development of new industries such as aluminum smelting and fiber optics.

The following year, Clovis also became home to America's first open-air amusement park, which attracted large crowds. In 1893, Clovis incorporated as a city and soon achieved high levels of economic success. By 1907, its population had grown to over 30,000 people. However, during World War I (1914-18), Clovis experienced significant decline due to military production and troop withdrawals from California. The war destroyed many businesses and led to a decline in population that lasted until the late 1930s. During this time period, parts of Clovis were used for munitions production and other industrial purposes; however, overall development remained slow due to limited resources. As a result of these factors, by 1940 only about 12 percent ofClovienses lived in downtown areas such as Main Street or Porter Plaza while most residents resided outside the city limits on either side of Interstate 5 or within rural communities east of Interstate 80. In recent years however,, clovienses have begunto return to downtown areas surrounding Main Street (); improvements have been made including new restaurants ; increased tourism; moving away from munitions production; and increasing support for arts & culture within the community
Clovis, California was first settled by the Native Americans in the early 1800s. The area was first named Yuma and then called Clovis after a French fur trader, Pierre Clovis. In 1849, during the Mexican-American War, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna surrendered at Campo Viejo and this event marked the end of hostilities between Mexico and America. After Santa Anna's surrender, soldiers from both sides began to arrive in California looking for new locations to settle. One soldier from New Mexico named George Custer disembarked at Point Conception on July 9th, 1851 in order to find new land for his troops. Heading west he soon discovered an opening called Owens Valley which he decided to explore further. On October 14th of that year he laid down his claim to what is now known as Yosemite National Park with his friends Kit Carson and Wofford Robinson. On November 15th, 1851 Custer was killed when his party encountered a group of Sioux warriors while exploring the valley near Half Dome
