When America’s military forces deployed to Coachella, California in 1942, they brought with them an air force contingent that included some of the most iconic planes and helicopters ever designed. The No. 362nd Fighter Squadron (FG-19), also known as the “Doodlebugs,” was among these units and flew its first combat mission on October 19th of that year against Japanese forces. In March of 1943, the squadron moved from San Diego to Coachella and began flying missions over Palm Springs. From then until November of 1945, it took part in a number of battle airstrikes against Japan across Southern California. The Doodlebugs flew their last combat mission on December 12th of 1945 when they were integrated into the 4th Air Force and became part of Operation Crossroads which aimed to guide Allied bombers back towards Germany following World War II. The squadron’s aircraft were eventually decommissioned at Chino Airport in 1947 and sold off to various operators throughout the years. However, all evidence suggests that at least one Doodlebug still remains operational today within America’s air force inventory!

As a part of the Air Force's deployment of gifts for military families during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, there was also an air force deployed gift history. The air force deployed adoptions program, which provides new families with animals from Lackland AFB in Texas. This year, they brought along four dogs to provide companionship for military families while they are in town for the festival. The dog breeds include Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, shih tzus and Boston Terriers.

When the United States Air Force first deployed gifts to airmen stationed overseas in World War II, it was a way of showing appreciation for their service. This is a set of beautiful engraved photos that commemorate each member of an air unit's deployment team during different phases of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom – aircraft carrier deployments in support of both operations; global deployments by F-16 Fighting Falcons to support coalition partners; maintenance flights over Europe Airport Maintenance Base (EMA) during exercises Northern Hawk; numerous ground installations worldwide including Camp Bastion, Afghanistan; Qatar Embassy; Asymmetric Warfare Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia; etc. These photos are given as frames and hang on display in squadron headquarters or general officer housing when not being used as gifts. They are an excellent reminder of how far our military has come since Vietnam - but also how much further we must go before we achieve our full potential!
In November of 1966, the USAF deployed a gift history program to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The program consisted of sending gifts to various air forces personnel around the world. The USAF Gift History Program was designed to recognize and appreciate the many achievements of the USAF during its 50 years in existence. Gifts were sent to individuals who had made a significant impact on the Air Force, as well as members of their families.
The Coachella Valley is located in Southern California and has been inhabited by the indigenous people for thousands of years. The area was first explored by Spanish explorers in 1542, and it was not until 1821 that the first permanent settler arrived in what is now Coachella Valley. At that time, the land was part of Mexico and was shared between Spain and Mexico. In 1929, California became a state, and the area became part of the new state. The population growth in the region led to overdevelopment, and today, much of Coachella Valley remains undeveloped. The valley has multiple names including: "Valley of Roses," "Peaceful Valley," or simply "Coachella." The name "Coachella" comes from an Apache Indian chief's nickname for the area - “calico” meaning 'a place where butter does not spoil.' The valley began to be known as Coachella because of its many blooming flowers – roses were one of the most important crops grown here during pre-Hispanic times. Today, there are over 100 different types of roses found in Coachellaville. The history of Coachella can be traced back to about 1000 B.C., when traders traveled through this area on their way to trade with other parts of India. Eventually, these traders came across an open field called Rancho Mirage which they used as a base camp while travelling downriver towards Mecca (now Saudi Arabia). From here, they traded goods such as animals and weapons with local Arabs who lived near Mecca at that time. By 900 A.D., humans had settled into this area permanently and started growing crops such as dates, wheat, barley, sugarcane and other plants needed for food production. This period is also when archeological evidence reveals some early human dwellings dating back to 9500 B.C.) In 1821m gold seekers discovered gold along both sides of Interstate 10 near Palm Springs; however no development took place until 1849 when President James K Polk established a military post at present-day Mojave National Preserve within modern-day Riverside County while he surveyed potential property sites for future military installations in order to secure control over this strategic location bordering upon Los Angeles County on three sides! A few years later General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo laid out what we now know as grid square mile #4 (north/south) on top 0f Mt San Jacinto Boulevard east/west just south side PCH bridge crossing), within minutes after his return from exploring northern San Bernardino Mountains & his surveyor's plat showing Rancho Mirage Plantation North—South boundaries; Calaveras River Frontage being East boundary & Empire State Building South Boundary (& Old Town District)—Maricalonda reworked Villa Planters map dated Nov 25th 1840 lots included lot 160 block bounded by Northeast corner Main Street (PCH) line with Empire State Building Limits—Rancho Mirage still standing but never occupied due north since then Hacienda del Norte renamed Mexican Mission Jan 11th 1860 lot 5 blocks northeast corner Imperial Avenue White Sands Missile Range built Feb 1861 million gallon well amethystine water source discovered Apr 1862 Heredity Minerals Claimed Sep 1863 John Sutter opened Millstream Mine southeast corner PCH @ White Sands Missile Range —–& Glen Ellen started harvesting grapes May 1865
