Coalinga is a small town located in Stanislaus County, California. The population was 638 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Modesto, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to settle in Coalinga were Anglo-Saxon settlers who arrived in 1849. They built small ranchos and summer homes on the highlands around the present day town. By 1907, however, most of the original Anglo-Saxon residents had died from disease or accidents associated with mining activities in nearby San Francisco Bay. A few more English families immigrated during World War II but by 1945 all but two of the original 229 residents had died from natural causes or injuries sustained during that conflict. After World War II, many people throughout Northern California started working in newly developed oil fields such as Stanislaus and Kern Counties east of Coalinga while others continued to live there until they retired or moved away. Today most of the remaining Anglo-Saxon residents have long since passed away except for a few scattered descendants who still live within easy commuting distance of their ancestral home land and some relationships still continue between community members through visits back to their old stomping ground each year or so.

Coalinga was founded in 1851 by Captain George Watt, a British immigrant who had come to California as part of the Gold Rush. Watt began mining gold at Coalinga and discovered coal deposits nearby. In 1861, he built the first stagecoach stop in California and named it after his discovery. The town continued to grow throughout the 1860s and 1870s, with increased demand for coal from miners and mills in San Francisco and other parts of California. By 1880, Coalinga had become one of the largest communities in the state. In 1898, when California became a republic, Coalinga became its capital. It remained an important center of commerce until World War II when it lost its importance due to major military activities in the area. Today, Coalinga is a small community with few assets remaining that is home to a small number of people.
Coalinga is a small town in the Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,236 at the 2010 census. It has been reported that Coalinga was once known as "the black gold of California". The first European to sight what is now Coalinga were Spanish explorers on November 17, 1769 when they landed on the present site after sailing from Monterey Bay. José de la Cosa and his party explored the area for several days before returning to Mexico City. The first permanent resident of Coalinga was Manuel Nieto who built a small cabin in 1834. A post office called Nietoville was established in 1836 but it closed in 1838 because of low mail volume. In 1847, Jens Larsen discovered oil while prospecting near Coyote Wells and he leased land around it from George Washingburne for an exploratory oil well. By 1850, some 20 wells had been drilled and production began with Washingburne selling shares to other investors until 1870 when he sold all his interest to another group including Daniel Webster who built a refinery at Coalinga in 1871 which became one of the largest crude oil refineries in America. In 1903, Standard Oil Company bought out Daniel Webster's share and renamed it Socal Refining Company Ltd., later becoming ExxonMobil Corporation In 1915 there was an attempt by Japan during World War I to open up accounts at American banks so they could buy weapons supplies through sanctions against Germany; this failed due to high demand from belligerents' allies such as Russia for petroleum products unavailable through normal channels In 1941 during World War II Japanese forces occupied southern California; soon afterwards their military airfields were located nearby including Naval Air Station Miramar which became operational as Marine Corps Air Station Miramar soon after . After 1945 both US Military installations closed down with most remaining until 1984 when Naval Air Station North Island opened up providing aerial refueling services for Operation Desert Storm involving coalition aircraft flown over Saudi Arabia ..
