As coffee became more popular in the United States, artisan roasters began to emerge. Many of these roasters were founded by coffee enthusiasts who took their passion for coffee and turned it into a career. Some of the most famous artisan roasters include Peet's Coffee & Tea, Stumptown Coffee Company, and Four Barrel Coffee. Each of these companies has its own unique flavor and history that can be enjoyed today. The first espresso machine was built in Coalinga, California in 1903 by Angelo Petrini. This machine was used to make small batches of coffee for his family and friends. The Petrini family continued to run this business until 1978 when it was sold to Lorenzo Petrini Sr. This company produced some of the earliest Italian-made espresso machines and continues to produce quality espresso products today. In the early 1990s, Luigi Beccaria opened his own espresso shop called La Caffetta on Vista Street in Coalinga. Beccaria is considered one of the pioneers of modern espresso production and is credited with developing both cortado (smaller than a traditionalAmericano) and lungo (longer than a regular americano). He also helped promote Italian made espresso as an alternative to American-produced beans. In 2013, La Caffetta reopened under new ownership after several years closed down due to financial issues. In 2003, Angelo Petrini Jr.'s son purchased the business from Lorenzo Petrini Sr.. The Petrinis continue to produce excellent Italian-made espresso products at their former business location until 2018 when they sold it back toAngelo Petrini Jr.. These days, Angelo Petrini Jr.'s sons manage all aspects of operations within their father's business including marketing, sales, research and development, as well as day-to-day operations such as setting up shop space and maintaining equipment levels ensuring consistency across all brands femmeffeeproducts . However, coalmining remains a significant part of the local economy today with several hundred small businesses employing over 2,500 people. The City of Coalinga has experienced many changes during its history. Coalinga, California is located in the central region of California. The area was first settled by Native Americans according to archeological evidence. The first European to arrive in what is now Coalinga was the Spanish sailor Sebastián Vizcaíno who landed on February 25, 1769. He named the area San Salvador and reported finding a small creek there that he thought could be used for selling wine. However, it wasn't until 1821 when Juan Bautista de Anza founded Fort Tejon in present-day Sacramento County that supplies of water became available for humans and horses coming through the mountains from Bathurst Pass. The town of Coalinga was founded on December 3, 1852 by James Waugh as an agricultural community along State Route 99E east of present-day Colusa City. A post office called Coalinga was established at this site on January 10, 1853. By 1865, Coalinga had become a full town with its own government and school system. On October 20, 1916 (the date commemorated by the townsite), General Pershing ordered all Ulysses S. Grant's troops stationed in California to leave for World War I because of their conflict with Germany over neutrality policy. This move helped end Reconstruction in America and result in an increase in crime rates within black areas such as Los Angeles County during this time period; however, public sentiment towards Japanese Americans during World War II prevented them from being interned or persecuted like other minority groups during that time period

Coalinga was founded in 1853 by Captain James F. Coalinga and his family as a small trading post on the Sacramento River. The Post served as an important transportation bottleneck for goods moving up the river from southern California and north to San Francisco. In 1875, the town of Coalinga was established around what is now Main Street. The town grew slowly until World War II when it exploded with growth due to the wartime demand for munitions and other materials. The population peaked at over 100,000 in 1950 and gradually declined thereafter, remaining below 50,000 until 1980. The largest employer in Coalinga during its glory days was United Fruit Company which operated a packing plant and several stores in town. Other large employers during this time included Western Electric, Pacific Gas & Electric, Imperial Chemical Industries and McDonnell Aircraft Corporation. Since disbanding in 1980, most of the old-town business has been replaced by new development including a shopping center anchored by Sears Holdings Corporation (Sears Home improvement), a new hospital (University of California Medical Center) and a number of housing developments such as Regency Village and Echo Hills.
