Coalinga is a small, unincorporated community in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. It is located on the east side of State Route 101, about 8 miles north-northwest of Redwood City and about 15 miles south-southwest of San Francisco. The community was founded in 1874 by Mormon pioneers who came from Coalinga, Nevada. The name "Coalinga" means "place to collect coal." At one time, Coalinga had a post office and two churches. The present community was established in 1914 when the first post office opened at nearby Mill Valley. The second church opened in 1928. As an agricultural center, Coalinga has been home to many different types of crops including wheat, barley, oats, corn, and potatoes; as well as ranching operations that include dairy cattle and hay production. A number of businesses have also been operated here over the years including a general store and two restaurants which still operate today.

In 1912, Swiss traders discovered Mombasa and started trading Coffee with the locals. They soon realized that Mombasa is not able to produce quality Coffee Beans, so they sent their samples back to Switzerland for examination. In 1915, Turkish traders discovered Celebes and started trading Coffee with the local population. They soon realized that Celebes is not able to produce quality Coffee Beans, so they sent their samples back to Turkey forexamination. Coalinga is a small town located in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,929 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The first permanent occupants of Coalinga were Mexican pioneers who arrived in 1848. They are buried at Cypress Grove Cemetery. In 1874, the Ute Tribe of Indians began to live in and around Coalinga and operate a mission there. A post office was established at Coalinga in 1879, and the town name changed to its current form on July 4, 1904 when an act of Congress made it one of eighty towns in California named for Governors James Irvine and William Atherton Chase. In 1939, during World War II, Coalinga was one of two communities (the other being Bakersfield) in California that voluntarily erected Victory gardens as part of their war production program. After the war ended, many residents left for various reasons including the Korean War and the Vietnam War; however, a few remain today working within local government or nonprofit organizations. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Coalinga has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate (Csb).
