The Marine Corps deploys a large quantity of gift items to support military members and their families. This year, the Marines will send spouses and children gifts including radios, hats, underwear, and other clothing items. As part of its holiday season programming, the Marine Corps also plans to send a variety of presents such as books, games, cards and toys. Since 1945, the Marines have sent a number of unique gifts to servicemen and women around the world. These include service dogs for disabled people or those with Alzheimer's disease; Christmas trees complete with candy canes and eggs; golf carts filled with presents for spouses or children during deployments; and even fishing rods personalized with names or pictures of Marines or their loved ones.
The Marines deployed in Colton, California, were a part of the 3rd Marine Division. The division was first activated on November 8th, 1941 at Camp Pendleton and served in World War II as an amphibious assault brigade. It was later redesignated the 3rd Marine Division on May 24th, 1945. The division served in the Korean War and Vietnam War before being disbanded on September 15th, 1995.
The town of Colton, California is located in the Mojave Desert and has a population of just under 1,000. The town was founded in 1882 by Mormon pioneers and was named after Brigham Young's father, Colter Young. The first post office was established in Colton in 1883. In 1915, the town became an incorporated municipality. When the United States entered World War II, Colton joined the United States military as part of General George S. Patton's Third Army. After the war, Colton experienced economic decline due to petroleum production activities being relocated to other parts of California. However, over time, Colton has regained some lost ground and now has a population of around 1,500 residents. Today,Colton is known for its renewable energy resources which include solar power and wind turbines. It also exports natural gas from its wellhead operations to nearby towns and cities in Southern California and Nevada

In 1848, Colton was founded in the Mojave Desert by George A. Smith and his wife, Jane. The town quickly became a center for cattle and sheep ranching, with a population of around 300 people in 1850. By 1860, Colton had become an important transportation hub due to its location at the junction of two wagon trails that ran through the area. In 1871, the town was renamed after General John Sutter and it soon grew into a large agricultural center with over 1,500 residents. In 1916, Colton experienced its first major earthquake, which caused extensive damage and loss of life. Over time, Colton has developed into a highly industrialized city with several crushing industries such as aluminum production and power plant construction. Today, Colton is home to more than 12 thousand residents and is one of the most vibrant cities in California.
The Colton post office was established in 1892, and remained in operation until it closed in 1933. The town of Colton was founded in 1887 by George W. Coulter, a landowner and cattleman. Coulter named the town after his son-in-law, Colonel James H. Colton (1827-1911), who had served as an officer in the Union Army during the Mexican–American War. In 1928, the townsite of Colton was annexed by the city of Los Angeles; however, the post office continued to be open until it closed on July 1, 1933.
