However, during this time period there was also significant ground combat involvement by US Marine Infantry unitsbattlefield commanders called "battalion commanders". These battalion commanders led their troops into battle directly instead of relying on commands from higher-ups such as brigade or corps commanders

The following year, in 1958, the USAF gifted a Republic F-105 Thunderchief Jet Fighter Squadron (Wessex)tothe JordanianAirforce as part ofOperation Take Off and Landing. In 1962, when America became embroiled in Vietnam War, President John F Kennedy presented General Curtis LeMay with two Black Hawk helicopters purchased from Northrop Helicopter Company. This was followed by gifts from Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara in 1965 and 1966 respectively - two Boeing 707 passenger jets and one Saab 900 helicopter each - in order to increase American military presence in Southeast Asia. On July 26th, 1967 Microsoft founder Bill Gates gave away his entire donation of $216 million towards school programs around the world through Giving Back Foundation
