The Coast Guard Gift History in Commerce, California reaches back to 1916 when Captain Fenton of the Coast Guard was appointed to head a gift shop on board the USCGC "Alabama" which then served as the flagship of the Department of Fisheries and Game. In 1924, Captain John W. Stroud, who had been commanding officer of the USCGC "Alaska" from 1922-1925, became captain of the "Alabama" and commandeered her for the purpose. The Coast Guard began selling gifts through this gift shop in 1926. Gifts were also given out through Auxiliary Signal Corps detachments stationed at various locations along the coast during World War I and II. From 1933-1945,Captain Harry A. Summers commanded Coast Guard Station Cecil because it was located on an uninhabited island about halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento (now part of Richmond County). During his tenure, gifts were given out through station's small storeroom and bydropping baskets overboard from vessel's superstructure onto beaches near Humboldt Bay. In 1951, Captain Don Easley was appointed Commanding Officer at Coast Guard Station Point Reyes after serving as Assistant Chief petty officer First Class (AVP) on USS Constitution (CGN-5) during World War II. He changed the name to Coast Guard Station Point Reyes in 1962 when he took over responsibility for all coastal assets within Northern California including Point Reyes Light House which had been operated by Naval Militia since 1853. After 10 years as CO RPTS(CG), he retired in 1978 having served honorably with distinction throughout his career including tours aboard both CGSS(LHDs) YT1/2 Cyclone and NG3/4 Diamondback - two major operations during Operation Desert Storm . As CO RPTS(CG),he initiated many programs that continue today such as program to train law enforcement officers how to deal with drugs; new equipment availability for use in search & rescue missions; introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles into service; erection of a weather station at SFDHS;; establishment of a detachment center at SFO Airport;; installation of a microwave transmitter on UHF beacon offshore off Tiburon Island;; establishment thereof ashore atPoint Reyes Lighthouse;; activation program for HMCS Discovery RNC off Haiphong Harbor;; christening project for new NSN class frigates underway - HMCS Windsor

Commerce, California is a city in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 792 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Fresno County by population and the second-largest city in Kern County. The two counties are both part of the Central Valley region of California. The first settlement in what is now Commerce was made on December 22, 1853 when Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico Mexican Catholic Church officials organized an expedition to explore this new land grant that had been given to James Hahn by Governor Pio Pico. The party consisted of three men: George Aikens, John Sutter and David Wyle arrived during winter of 1853–4 and began building a small town on the east bank of the Arroyo Seco River about one mile north of present day downtown Commerce. They named their town after General Carlos Manuel de Tejas who had led Mexican forces against Ulysses S. Grant's army at Palo Alto during the Alamo campaign in 1846. The townsite remained unoccupied for several years until Nathaniel Hawthorne claimed it as part of his Rancho San Miguel property on November 16, 1857 following his purchase from Antonio López de Santa Anna for $1,000USD$. Upon acquisition of this land parcel Hawthorne renamed it "Hawthorne Heights". This name change did not last long as he soon sold it back to López de Santa Anna for $650USD$. In 1865 Jörg Müller founded a paper mill on some nearby hills which became known as Müllerville after him; today's downtown Commerce contains remnants of Müllerville including a replica mill buildings dating back to 1870 and a gristmill built in 1903 which still stands (see also History section below). Commerce quickly emerged as one of Northern California's leading agricultural centers due largely to its fertile soil and strategic location near major water sources such as the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. By 1860 Union Pacific Railroad had completed its line from Stockton through central Fresno county linking with other railroads near Bakersfield and Yreka respectively making commerce an even more important transportation hub within Northern California. Increased trade brought numerous entrepreneurs into business throughout much of this period including Hahn himself who frequently served as president or vice president various northern railroad companies including First National Bank & Trust Company, Southern Pacific Railway Company and Union Pacific Railroad Company among others along with his own private banking interests. During World War II many local businesses turned out Material Supplies Department items like rubber materials needed for war production while others produced munitions or supported military installations such as shipyards or airfields located throughout central Fresno County Production continued rapidly into postwar years despite difficult economic times thanks chiefly to increased international trade generated by newly opened markets inside North America resulting in increased job opportunities throughout most aspects of society particularly education which experienced significant growth during wartime years becoming one of America’s most vibrant cities during these decades although housing challenges continue today due to ongoing suburbanization reaching levels not seen since before World War II . In 1969 City Council passed an ordinance imposing limits onahan Unlimited hours working outside home without obtaining advance written notice from employer effective January 1st 1970
