In 1821, Antonio Canseco made an abortive foray upriver from Rancho Niguel into present-day Riverside County claiming part of today’s Anaheim Hills as his land grant. The City of Commerce was incorporated on December 20, 1903. It became one of the original cities in Southern California when it was annexed by Los Angeles in 1907. Today, it remains one of Southern California’s most vibrant and economically active cities with a population of more than 2,800 people living in various neighborhoods including Downtown (the older business district), Midtown/Uptown (the new high-density residential area), North Hollywood/Pasadena Hills/Northridge (a bedroom community adjacent to Disneyland Resort), East Covina (a bedroom community adjacent to La Jolla) and West Covina (an adjacent bedroom community adjacent to Fullerton). The commerce region straddles both sides of Interstate 10 Interstate 5 and includes portions of Orange County as well as Pomona, Claremont Colleges and numerous other smaller townships across southern Riverside County which have all adopted the moniker “Industry Valley” because their economy depends significantly upon heavy industry such as manufacturing, agriculture or healthcare services located within easy proximity to freeway exits that connect these valleys with larger metropolitan areas throughout Southern California

Commerce, California is a small city located in the San Joaquin Valley of northern California. The population was 5,710 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kern County and was founded in 1853 by Mormons from Utah who came to this area looking for new land to settle. The town was named after David Lane Commerce, an early settler and cattleman who helped found Kern County. The first post office opened in 1854 and the name changed to Commerce in 1868 when it became part of Los Angeles County. The city has been continuously inhabited since its founding and currently has a population of over 10,000 people. Kern County was created on November 3, 1850 from parts of Tulare and Inyo counties as a result of the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). At that time there were no incorporated cities or towns within present day Kern County. A committee chaired by Mayor James Bogan recommended that commerce be given its own courthouse and jail as well as other necessary infrastructure such as drains, roads, water reservoirs, power plants, schools and churches. The county seat was eventually chosen at what is now downtown Commerce because it had the most business activity due to its location near both major railroads and eastern goldfields discovered in Kern County during this period. The opening of the Suez Canal made goods transportation much more efficient which increased demand for agricultural products brought about by persistent drought conditions throughout much of California during the mid-19th century leading toenormous extents crop failures across much of Southern California; however some farmers did manage to thrive despite these difficulties thanks largely to irrigation systems developed especially for agriculture in central valley areas including those within today’s Kern/Los Angeles counties
