The Air Force has a rich airforce history in Compton, California. The city was home to the first USAF base in California, and is also known for its role in the Vietnam War. The military has been present in Compton since World War II and the city's airport was one of the original US military airstrips. Today, Compton is home to two Air Force bases as well as numerous other related facilities. The first AFB on site was christened "Enderby" after Major General John Enderby who commanded American forces during World War II. In 1951, "Enderby" became part of the newly formed 1st Aerospace Division at Wright-Patterson AFB where it remained until 1992 when it was transferred to Compton AFB under command of 3rd Space Wing at Dyess AFB. Since then, "Enderby" has served as an integral part of both USAF Headquarters and 3rd Space Wing operations. In addition to its primary role as an airbase for fighter and bomber missions, "Enderby" also hosted a number of helicopters used for search and rescue operations during both world wars including Operation Overlord which took place from October 1944 until February 1945; Operation Neptune's Spear which took place from March 1945 until May 1945; and Operation White Cloud which occurred between July 1945 and December 1946. On 15 August 1952 Compton Municipal Airport opened with Boeing 707 passenger service operated by Southern Airways Company between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Compton Municipal Airport providing access to downtown Los Angeles via Interstate 575A while Pearson Airlines provided service between Chino Hills (Rancho Cordova) Airport (1915), Long Beach Municipal Airport (1938), Hermosa Beach Municipal Airport (1948), Torrance County Regional Airport (1950), Palmdale Municipal Airport (1952) – all located within less than 10 miles of each other making this one of the largest airport systems in North America at that time. It wasn't until 1 September 1966 when Lockheed P-3C Orion surface aircraft began flights over LASIK eye surgery demonstrations sponsored by Glaucoma Foundation with support from United States Naval Surgeons' Association physician group USS Abraham Lincoln Distinguished Service Award winners Navy Flight surgeons working aboard USS Abraham Lincoln during their medical mission into Viet Nam along side Squadron Commander Rear Admiral Jervis Buchanan III commanding Task Force 58 consisting of Douglas A-4 Skyhawks flying under Flag Officer Special Operations Command - First Fleet - Vietnam assigned responsibility for MEDEVAC helicopter insertion/landing support activities operating against VC/NVA units near Huế Province that public awareness about glaucoma became widespread with further flights conducted every day throughout November 1966 using various altitudes including 500 feet above ground level operation providing great view quality over valley floor

With over 190,000 personnel and a budget of $100 billion in 2016, the USAF is one of the most expensive militaries in the world. The service has a long history of gifting its members unique items, including aircraft, missiles, tools and equipment, as well as gifts such as flowers, books and golf clubs. Compton is a city located in southern California, just east of the San Andreas Fault. It was founded in 1887 by immigrants who had fled Mexican violence and political instability. The city has a population of over 120,000 people and it is the most populous city on the West Coast of North America. Compton is also one of the most racially diverse cities in the United States. Compton’s history dates back to 1887, when immigrants from Mexico brought their own cultures and institutions with them when they arrived in what is now Compton County, California. The name “compton” means “place where wheat grows” in Spanish and this was how the first settlers named their community after themselves- Comstock Park. However, due to land grants given to local ranch owners which were only good for sheep grazing, no crops grew up around Compton until after World War II when new irrigation systems were built nearby. In 1965, Compton became an incorporated city under state law following a referendum vote that passed 54% for incorporation into the City of Los Angeles system as well as setting aside 1/3 of its land for public use including open space and parks like Olympic Stadium which are now known as The Grove. In 2007, Compton was selected as one of fourteen finalists for inclusion in LA's Cultural District National Monument designation program overseen by Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). This designation would have allowed access to government archives and other resources related to preservation efforts within downtown Los Angeles – a project that began shortly before Compton mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced his candidacy for Mayor of Los Angeles in 2009. On October 15th 2010, Mayor Villaraigosa unveiled plans to demolish part of Hollywood Boulevard between Highland Avenue and Beverly Boulevard along with approval from then-City Controller Alan Garcetti to create "The First Neighborhood" - an area bounded by Saugus Street on one side and Western Avenue on another - within Downtown L.A., homegowns Shopping Center Drive on its frontage; Koreatown Boulevard on its eastern border; Hoover Street on its western border; Vinegar Hill Road on its southeastern border with Universal CityWalk developments surrounding it – making it one contiguous neighborhood centered around major shopping areas without any cultural boundaries or commercial limitations outside those areas

The USAF has even organized charity golf tournaments! Gift giving within the USAF can be traced back to World War II when theAAF began giving small amounts of money as presents to other countries. It wasn’t until 1955 that the USAF started providing goods and services as a gift to friends and allies. This was followed by donations of equipment in 1961. In 1969, the USAF made it their policy to give every service member a personal donation valued at $10,000 or more. Today, the USAF continues its tradition of giving gifts both large and small. Some recent examples include: -Giving soldiers M16 rifles for free on holidays; -Donating 7 pregnant women who were needed during Operation Neptune’s Spear; -Gifting aircraft parts to support Operation Overlord; -Gifting over 5 million pounds of food and supplies to troops in Afghanistan; -Donating funds for education programs across the country
On July 5, 1944 the United States Air Force bestowed its first gift to the Royal Air Force. The gift was a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber. The RAF's first jet bomber was the English Electric Lightning II. It was christened "Wings over England" and flew for the first time on February 17, 1952 from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. It had a range of almost 2,000 miles and could fly at high altitudes for long periods of time.
When the first Europeans discovered what is now Compton, California in 1769 they were excited. The area was part of the Mexican province of Baja California and it was only after Mexico lost control of that territory in 1821 that the area became part of the United States. With newly acquired land, American settlers began to populate this area and by 1852 there were over 100 people living in Compton. It wasn’t until 1865 when a post office was established here and until 1890 when a school was opened. The population continued to grow as more people came to this area looking for farming or ranching opportunities. In 1902, the first water system for this community was built and in 1936 a high school was built. In 1945, Warner Bros. Studios moved from Hollywood to set up shop here and continue making movies until 1959 when they left for Burbank, California. The good news is that Compton has seen some pretty impressive growth since its founding – from just a few hundred residents in 1865 to over one thousand by 1910! Some of the highlights include: -A large college town with several universities (including USC), including UCLA; -A massive steel mill which helped create jobs for many local residents; -An immense housing development which continues to thrive despite various challenges; -And today an incredibly diverse community with over 50% black residents – making it one of America’s most diverse cities
