In Concord, California, the United States Army has a rich history dating back to 1851. The current Concord soldier garrison is the oldest in California and was founded in 1851 as Fort Donner. It was located on the east side of the Sacramento River and served as a base for troop movements upstream and downstream from San Francisco. The first military post in what is now Concord was called Fort Donner because it was built on the site of an earlier rancho called Donner Rancho de la Mesa de los Padres (Mesa Ranch). In 1847, General John C. Fremont attacked Mexican forces at Sutter’s Mill, north of present-day Modesto, California; this event is noted as beginning American Indian Wars. The fort at Donners changed its name to Fort Drum in 1850 due to concerns that another fort might be built on or near the same site. In 1861, during the American Civil War, there were three major battles fought within two miles of downtown Concord: First Battle of Concord (May 15), Second Battle of Concord (July 3), and Third Battle of Concord (October 19). In 1865–1866, when General Crocker attempted to open up Central Valley irrigation canals through what are now Stockton and Fresno counties he encountered resistance from Native Americans living along his route; these protests led to the Californios’ Truce Agreement signed December 10th by both parties which ended hostilities between Californians and Mexicans. At this time many soldiers from adjacent towns enlisted with their unit(s) in order to attend muster-out ceremonies at Camp Dodge where they exchanged their arms for civilian clothes and bags full of gold sovereigns valued at $1 per head. This period also saw an increase in military activity around town due to construction projects such as enlarging Sacramento Street which became known as “Drum Road” after one company commander’s store building on that street became known as “Drum Barracks” after his troops stationed there. Withdrawal from World War I caused a decrease in troop numbers throughout America but not until 1917 did Ulysses S Grant establish Camp Meade outside Ofallon Heights Cemetery east of town on land purchased by Colonel James Hutton who had been forced out of his home state Kansas by violence there following Santa Clara County Sheriff Manuel Nieto's refusal to issue warrants for search warrants against undesirable individuals associated with Alameda County ranchers who had supported Grant during World War I despite Schwarzenegger's claim that those people "were all farmers." The Concord, California Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to the creation of the California State Militia in 1851. The first units organized in Concord were the 1st and 3rd Battalion, Independent Infantry Regiment. In 1861, the 1st and 3rd Battalion were combined into one battalion and redesignated as Company A of the 10th U.S. Infantry Regiment (California). The regiment was moved to Camp George C. Marshall in Sacramento, California in 1862 and then to Fort Tejon in San Diego County in 1863 before being transferred to September 16th Movement at Bancroft Barracks, Oakland, California on October 9th of that year. On November 7th 1865 this regiment was reorganized as Company D of the 24th Infantry Regiment (New Mexico) prior to its move from New Mexico on January 2nd of 1866 which arrived at Camp Reynolds near Ennis Texas on February 6th for duty with Major General Antonio López de Santa Anna’s army during his Mexican-American War campaign against President Andrew Johnson’s forces under Lt. Col William Tecumseh Sherman. Concord, California is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 497 at the 2010 census. Concord was founded on December 21, 1853 by Amasa Burr and his brother-in-law Nathan Hale. It became an incorporated town on February 20, 1865. On April 24, 1902, it merged with the neighboring towns of Pleasanton and San Ramon to form the city of Concord. The original name for Concord was "Pleasanton". The University of California at Berkeley is located in Concord and it has been a mainstay of the local community since its establishment in 1881. Concord, California is located in the eastern Mojave Desert and was founded by the Hopi people in 1912. The city has a population of about 140,000 and is the cultural and economic center of southeastern California. The city also features some of the most well-preserved examples of Californio architecture in the state. The town began as a small trading post on Coyote Creek near present-day Hawthorne. In 1853, gold was found at Sinkhole Gulch in what is now Yucca Valley and it became evident that Concord would be an important trading center for this new discovery. A store was built at the junction of Coyote Creek Road and Indian Wells Road in 1854, which served as the first permanent business in Concord. By 1870, Concord had a population of 350 residents. In 1912, when California became a state, Concord was one of two townships within Los Angeles County (the other being Pasadena). The City Council decided to secede from Los Angeles County to become its own independent municipality on February 14th 1913. On July 1st 1915, when almond trees were introduced to Southern California by Augustus Saint-Gaudens as part of his plan to provide food for soldiers during World War I (and because he wanted to show off his new creation), Concord's first almond tree was planted at Fifth Street & Main Avenue by then Mayor Jules Meehan III with money donated by local citizens John Fenton and Harry Harkness Sr.. After over 100 years without any major development or renovation untillast year’s major restoration project costing $5 million dollars underway since early 2016 - it can now be said that Concord has undergone quite an influx over recent decades – both in terms sheer numbers (+140% growth between 2000-2016) but also investment ($24 million dollars already committed towards projects) with much hope still remaining for continued revitalization throughout into tomorrow!
The Concord area was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late 18th century. The town was founded on the site of a mission, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1769. In 1847, Concord became part of California when it was granted to the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The town experienced rapid growth during its early years, with many new businesses and residences being built. However, the Panic of 1837 caused a significant decline in Concord's fortunes, and it struggled to keep up with rapidly growing San Francisco. Despite this challenges, Concord continued to thrive through the 1850s and 1860s, despite having only a small population. However, during the 1870s and 1880s, Concord began to experience significant decline as a result of increasing competition from larger towns nearby. This trend continued into the 20th century until it finally pronounced itself extinct in 2000.
