Concord, California is a small city in Northern California on the east side of the San Joaquin River. The population was 523 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. Concord was founded by Norwegian-Americans in 1851 as a small town named Harmony on what is now Old Highway 99 south of downtown Fresno. In 1875, Concord became an incorporated city and changed its name to Concord when it annexed nearby village of North Concord. The name change comes from the fact that Concord had been two separate towns, one being north of downtown and one being south of it. The first store in Concord opened in 1851 and was run by Norwegian-Americans who were residents of nearby Harmony. The first post office was established in 1865, with Mr. Rasmussen serving as clerk and Mrs. Rasmussen as postmistress. By 1870, there were five stores and 21 residents in Concord; however, this number increased rapidly due to business opportunities offered by wagon trains arriving at the new station located near present day Market Street and adjacent to today's City Hall building (now known as United Way Headquarters). In 1875, when Concord annexed neighboring village of North Concord, they also changed its name to "Concord." This name change comes from the fact that Contra Costa County had been created back then and lots for farms were selling for $2 per acre ($60 per lot). At this time, people thought that if they called their community "Concord" it would be more likely to be accepted than if they called it "North Conway". The original water tower built in 1923 remains standing today just outside of town on Old Highway 99 between I-5 and State Route 121 (and can be seen from Interstate 5). Today's water tower is actually older than both I-5/State Route 121/Old Highway 99 itself - it dates back to 1907! In 1951, a new water tower was built next door to the old one which continues serve current residents today (although some Residents have complained about how noisy it can get inside during peak hours!). Additionally, there are several parks located within walking distance including McClure Park which features a large playground full size slide & play fort; Harmon Park with rich flower gardens & picnic areas; Gosnell Park with a well-manicured lawn; Blackhawk Creek park with basketball courts; Pioneer Heights development featuring high rises & lush green lawns; Salt Lake City Development District golf course & pool complex; Diablo Canyon Shopping Center which includes several grocery stores along with an indoor shopping mall - among other amenities! It should be noted that not all aspects mentioned herein are typical or common in Contra Costa County - some neighborhoods such as South Hayward have quite different demographics from those found within Concorde proper! However, these communities do share many characteristics such as strong Norwegian roots dating back centuries combined with an active community spirit which often leads to cooperation between locals authorities & citizens alike when needed most! A comprehensive history of Concord can only be written approximately 10 pages long so we will instead focus here on some notable events which took place during its earliest years: According to local legend*, milkmaids usedto bring milk directly into Convenant Central Schoolhouse every morning while students ate their breakfast prior to classes starting... even after school let out! Milk continued flowing into Central throughout World War II because Convenant’s dairy farm grew so large thanks largely to Japanese Americans who worked at various military bases across America... finally stopped producing milk following World War II but continue producing cheese until present day
