These cannons were used by American forces during World War I as artillery pieces before being returned to Mexican hands after the war ended. In 1922, Major General John J Pershing donated a rifle range located adjacent to Fort MacArthur in San Pedro Beach, California which became known as “Pershing Park” after him (the first US general who ever died in action). Today, this range continuesto be used by American soldiers for target shooting purposes as well as training their counterparts from other countries on how best defend ourselves against attack or terrorism (among other things).
