Corcoran, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley region. The first Europeans to visit Corcoran were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The area that now makes up Corcoran was first called Rancho El Camino Real de los Padres Francisco Narváez and Diego Gutierrez, granted by Governor Manuel Nieto on July 10, 1824 to Santiago Carrillo and his father José Narváez. In 1868, José Narváez sold land east of the town to Allan Nevins for $5,000. The name of the town came from Captain John Copley's survey of the Central Valley in 1795 which named it "Canoga". In 1872, Jens Christensen bought 640 acres (248 hectares) northeast of town from Juan Bautista Martinez for $10 per acre (4 hectares). This became Christensen Farms. In 1969, the City Council voted to accept annexation by Los Angeles County after years of petitioning and lobbying from Mayor Rudy Tomlinson.
