In 1978 Mayor Manuel Gomez included a plan to convert portions of Municipal Stadium into an open-air mall which would be anchored by Sears Tower ((in addition to theaters like Regal Theaters across town).)? this project stalled out short while plans for redevelopment emerged for what is now known as downtown Corcoran? In 1992 Mayor Jerry Sanders announced that they were moving their command center from Newport Beach,,CA((to establish Naval Air Station Miramar(NAF), adjacent to Naval Base Corcoran)) several months prior to their move ?? finally concluding some 16 years later when they moved back ??? once again returning home.(In 1998 construction began on a new complex called Northrop Grumman Fieldhouse adjacent To NAF with intent eventually?????????????????to house all DIU Detachment functions??!) Today there are over 4200 people living within 2 miles or less OF NAS CORCORAN ON THE GATEWAY TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA !!! including many retirees who continue TO BASE THEIR LIFE around our world class facility !!!!! Although NAS CORCORAN HAS BEEN SUBJECT TO MANY RESTRAINTS FROM GOVERNMENTS OVER THE YEARS IT HAS NEVER STOPPED ITS CULTURE OR ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY !!!!!!!

Corcoran is a town in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 1,225 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. Corcoran was founded in 1887 by George Washington Corcoran and his wife Mary Ann Donnelly. The name comes from the Spanish word "CORCORDIA" meaning "heavenly city".
