The Corona Navy Department has a rich naval history dating back to the early 1800s. The first navy ship in California was the USS Constitution, which was launched on December 12, 1821. The Constitution served as the flagship of the California Battalion in the Mexican-American War and participated in battles at Monterey and Tuguegarae. In 1848, the United States Military Academy at West Point bought two schooners, CSS Sacramento and CSS San Diego, and converted them into warships. The USS Mason (1849) and USS Farragut (1851) were also acquired from Mexico. The navy department continued to grow throughout the 19th century with acquisitions of additional ships including: CSS Nevada (1860), USS John Sutter (1862), USS Grunion (1864), HMS Astrid ( 1870), HMS Bellona ( 1872), HMS Hinchinbrook ( 1880) and HMS Triumph( 1889). In 1898 following World War I, America’s entry into World War II led to an increased demand for naval vessels by both countries. However, it wasn’t until 1941 that Corona received its first commissioned warship when HMCS Cornwall arrived from Canada after being used as a training ship for new navy personnel. It wasn’t until 1944 that Corona became home to its first Battleship Squadron when HMCS Windsor joined forces with HMCS Ontario to form task force 810 which would battle Japanese forces off Covina Beach during Operation Catalina. After more than five years of continuous service in support of naval operations across all oceans during World War II, it was decided that Corona should be decommissioned due to budget limitations within the military after hostilities ended on September 2, 1945. However, before this could happen, it was necessary for all remaining ships in her fleet – including her former battleship squadron – to be turned over to Japan pursuant to Treaty of Paris which ended World War II. This left Corona without any operational assets but she still remains one of California’s most proud heritage institutions with a rich maritime history dating back more than 250 years!

On October 26, 1944, the U.S. Navy Ship Corona was sunk by a Japanese torpedo while escort duty in the Central Pacific. The crew of the ship lost all but three of their lives and the impact of the torpedo left behind a large amount of wreckage and debris in waters off California. Corona, California is a city in San Francisco County, California. It was incorporated on November 3, 1847. The population of the city was 37,246 at the 2010 census. The City of Corona is located within theSan Francisco–Oakland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in what is now Corona was Captured John Montgomery who settled there on October 14th 1849 with his family from Richmond, Virginia. For many years it served as a stop on stagecoach routes between San Francisco and Berkeley and across the Bay Bridge into Oakland. In 1857 Captain Montgomery's son-in-law Prentice Mathers built a small adobe house near today's corner of First Street and University Avenue for himself and his family. At this time there were very few people living in what are now Corona and Milpitas because most of the land that would become Corona was still owned by Native American Indians who paid them tribute for hunting or fishing rights. A group of miners from nearby Amador Valley started working on strikebreakers for General Gold Rush Fever in March 1861 when they refused to cross the picket line set up by their employers without getting an engagement fee in return On December 24th 1861 GenlGoldRushFever ordered all men under 25 years old to leave town limits due to concerns over violence ensuing from cholera pandemic sweeping through Northern California at that time In 1865 two brothers named George Wiltse started farming some land grant east of present day Third Street which became home to many early residents including Captains Montgomery and Wiltse On April Fool's Day 1870 local citizens surprised General Grant when he stopped at one of their homes for dinner - he had orders not to enter San Francisco during celebration days Shortly after this event new Mayor James Fenton decided that it would make more sense if a large public square could be built downtown where business meetings could take place (later known as Market Square) so He ordered surveyors to begin mapping out lots around that location Construction began on what would eventually become Riverside Drive on May 10th 1871 with part of Gurdon & Chaffee’s store fronting current Ballard Avenue During this same year construction also commenced on what would become today’s Masonic Temple which sat just south of Riverside Drive until its demolition in 1960 . On January 1st 1872 Whipple Bros moved into their new store building west side Second Street facing First Street where they continued selling groceries until their demise in 1936 . The first post office opened in 1886 inside what is now Masonic Temple . In 1893 Mr. Haggerty erected a pole barn north side First Streetswestern edgeof present day Goodyear Rd . This property has been used variously as residences, commercial space, schools etc .. Between 1906 and 1910 Grocery Outfitters operated out of this barn unloading food onto wagon trucks parked along Goodyear Road NW until it burned down 1982 saw the opening of Northridge High School which replaced then former Corona Middle School situated behind Municipal Complex north sideGoodyear RdNW .. After school programs were offered at Northridge during lunchtime until 1980 using facilities adjacenttoMC .. Today Northridge HS continues operations as a middle school
The first Europeans to set foot on the present-day Corona Peninsula were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and Gaspar de Portolà in 1542. The peninsula was part of San Francisco Bay until 1821, when it became part of Mexico. After Mexican independence from Spain, California became a United States territory. In 1848, the US annexed the peninsula and made it a district of Sonoma County. The first post office in Corona was established in 1850. In 1870, Corona had a population of about 1,000 people and platted its own town square with a courthouse and jail. By 1920, however, the population had dwindled to about 100 people.
