In 1886, two men named Don and Francisco Garcia founded the Corona Coffee Company. The company's first coffee was roasted in a small lot on the corner of 10th Street and Franklin Avenue. In 1912, the company moved to its current location on 5th Street and Washington Avenue. In 1916, Don Garcia passed away, and his son Francisco took over management of the company. The Corona Coffee Company continued to produce high-quality coffee until 1975. After that year, it closed down for several years due to financial problems. It reopened in 1984 under new management but ceased production in 1986 due to another financial setback. In 1992, a group of investors purchased the Corona Coffee Company from its previous owners and reopened it as a private roaster with its own beans. Today, the company produces about 2 million cups of coffee per month.

Corona, California is located in the Central Valley of California and was founded on October 25, 1849 by Juan Bautista Corona. The town was named after Spanish explorer Francisco de Robles who discovered it in 1769. It became a U.S. territory on February 6, 1850 and was named for James K. Polk, the first U.S. president to be elected from what is now Arizona Territory. On November 15, 1851, the town voted to become a city and incorporation took place on December 3 of that year with a population of 400 people living in five buildings which were used as stores and a schoolhouse. In 1860, John Cranch became the first Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in California and won by a wide margin; however, he did not serve due to his opposition to secessionism and the Mexican-American War. In 1870, there were three separate political parties in California: the Californian Republicans (founded by Augustus Folsom), the National Democrats (headed by Richard Mott), and the Americans (founded by A.D. Stevens). The Californian Republicans merged with the National Democrats in 1871 to form the United States Democratic Party; meanwhile, John Cranch re-joined the Republicans and became their national chairman that year. From 1861 until 1916 there were also three congressional districts in California: Orange County (including Corona), San Bernardino County (including Riverside and Arroyo Grande City), and Los Angeles County (excluding Ventura County). These districts were apportioned based on population as well as congressional district boundaries at statehood; each county received an equal number of representatives per congressperson regardless of population size or rural/urban divide within its county boundaries
