In 2013, Starbucks announced that it would close down all of their stores worldwide due to low sales rates and increasing competition from online retailers such as Amazon and Google alike. However, Cafe Regal survived until 2016 when it shut down completely after years of declining attendance due to fire code violations and an increase of visits from large food trucks parked outside the premises during peak hours.
Costa Mesa is a city in Orange County, California, United States. It is located on the western edge of the San Francisco Bay Area and has a population of 146,753 as of 2017. The city was incorporated on November 1, 1916. The name Costa Mesa comes from Spanish settlers who named it "El Escorial" after the seat of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. The current mayor is John Laird and City Councilmember Tony Hsieh. The history of Costa Mesa began with small groups of Anglo-American pioneers who arrived in 1849 to found what would become Orange County. William Irvine started Rancho Rincon de Santa Ana, which became Costa Mesa when he sold it to Mr. James Sutter in 1875 for $3,500 (). In 1906, Mr. Sutter donated land comprising most of today's downtown area to the City of Costa Mesa for use as an open space parkland including rolling hills and two reservoirs . On July 16, 1916, the City Council passed Resolution No. 9-A calling for localitation within boundaries set by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (now President Donald Trump). After much discussion and confusion over whether "Costa Mesa" should be anglicized or spelt "Carmel", voters finally decided that both names were too similar so they approved Resolution No. 9-B which changed the name to "Costa Mesa". Today's downtown area includes several blocks along Beach Boulevard between State Street and Winchester Avenue; Avenida de las Americas; Westminster Avenue between Pacific Coast Highway and Winchester Avenue; Ivar Erikson Way between Pacific Coast Highway and Vista Road; Monterey Park Drive east of Interstate 5 (I-5); Anza Freeway northbound off I-5 at US 101/State Route 166; University Boulevard southbound off I-5 at SR 167

The company continued to grow rapidly, opening new stores throughout America and Europe. In 1994, Starbucks purchased Jetpac Coffee Corporation, making it one of the largest co-operative coffee companies in the world. Through this acquisition, Starbucks became a global leader in coffee retailing. In 2002, Starbucks entered into a joint venture with Dutch Coffee Roasters (DCR), which is now known as Blue Bottle Coffee Company. This partnership allowed Starbucks to expand its roasting capabilities across four different countries: Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy. Additionally, through this partnership, Blue Bottle recruited some of the best roasters in the world including Peet's Coffee & Tea Europe BV (PTE) and Four Barrel Coffee Co., Ltd.. Costa Mesa is a city in Orange County, California, located on the eastern edge of the San Diego metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 66,716. The name Costa Mesa is Spanish for "The Sea of Cortez." It was first developed as an agricultural community and then became a resort town. The name Costa Mesa can be traced back to 1805 when José Monterey and his brother-in-law Manuel Nieto purchased land east of Mission Bay from Francisco Palomares for $4,000. The two men named their new rancho "Costa Mesa" because there was no sea then between Los Angeles and San Diego. This location would become one of the most important towns in Orange County because it offered easy access to both ports and resources such as watermelons, citrus fruit, and feathers from native animals. In 1869 Costilla sold part ownership in Costilla Rancho Santa Margarita to Mexican War veteran José Castro who renamed it "Castro Heights". In 1875 Juana de la Cruz married José María Pacheco and moved to Costa Mesa with him. They started a small opium farm north of town which supplied Japan with morphine during World War 1 while they were living in Tokyo; however they closed down operations after the war ended. In 1922 Jorge Elias Zuniga bought part of Mariano's estate including what is now downtown Costa Mesa from his heirs. He built a three story brick building called the Hotel Mariano that served as both a hotel and social club for many years until it burned down in 1936). The first post office opened in 1895 under the name Rancho Viejo (later changed to Donner Street). A second post office opened at Newport Beach on Donner Street in 1912 under the name Newport Coast (the modern street name reflects this early history). The original costal water tower still stands today onshore near where Donner Street meets Harbor Drive - visible from Interstate 5 just south of Research Park Boulevard (I-5/Marine Drive)

It is located on the eastern edge of Irvine and is adjacent to Doheny Beach and Newport Beach. The first Europeans to visit what is now Costa Mesa were Spanish Missions founded in 1769 by Father José de Anchia. The mission system ended with the Mexican–American War in 1848. In 1875, investors organized the First National Bank of Costa Mesa. The City of Costa Mesa was incorporated on December 12, 1912. In 1926, the town of Laguna Hills was annexed into Costa Mesa; this annexation removed most of the rural area east of I-5 from Costa Mesa's jurisdiction. This left a small rural area east of I-5 within Contra Costa County; this area became part of San Leandro when that city was merged into Oakland in 1976. In 1984, after years as an unincorporated part of Contra Costa County, parts of Laguna Hills and San Leandro were annexed by Costagráfico Municipality within Orange County as well; this made costagráfico an official municipality with its own government services and infrastructure including a fire district and police force
