The coffee house became known for its high-quality coffee and other products. The store continued to operate until 1976. In 1978, Harry Anderson's grandson, Gordon Anderson opened the first Starbucks location in Covina. The store continued to operate until 2011 when it was sold to Peet's Coffee Corporation. The Cole trust purchased the business from Peet's on November 15th, 2011 for $185 million. Under the terms of the sale, Cole Trust will continue to run the business as an independent entity with its own management team and product line."

Covina's history can be traced back to 1879 when it was founded as the town of Covina on the east side of what is now downtown LA. In 1907, the name was changed to Covina Heights and then finally to its current name in 1959. The first people to live in Covina were Mexican laborers who worked on the nearby Pico Rivera Railroad. When that line was closed in 1923, they had to find new ways to get food and goods for their families. Some of them started a grocery store called La Familia which still operates today in Covina Boulevard and Giraldo Avenue. Another early business owner was Harry Condon who ran a dry goods store on Elm Street from 1924-1927 downhill from Main Street into present day Covina Boulevard In 1957, there were only 10 residents living in Covina and only two businesses open: Harry's Grocery and La Casa de la Tienda (later known as Donny & Marie's). That year, Mayor Frank Henneman enacted an ordinance establishing City Hall which would later become city hall Annexe #1 In 1961, City Councilman Julius Estrada proposed moving the Civic Center from downtown LA because it was getting too big for its limited space. The idea originated with Mayor Henneman but it would take 3 more years until it actually happened In 1966-1967 McDonald’s opened up shop inside City Hall Annexe #1 which quickly became one of the most popular fast food restaurants in Los Angeles This event helped ignite redevelopment around City Hall Annexe #1 which continues to this day
