In the early 1800s, a small army was deployed to Cudahy, California as part of the Mexican-American War. The small army was led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna and consisted of about 50 men. The Mexican-American War was fought between Mexico and the United States. On October 15, 1846, Mexico announced that it would become an independent country if it did not succeed in defeating Texas in a war for independence. On November 3, 1846, President James K Polk signed an act that declared war on Mexico. On November 6th, General Antonio López de Santa Anna became acting governor of Baja California and started preparations for war. On December 1st, 1846, General Santa Anna ordered his small army to march northward towards Chihuahua City in order to join up with other units fighting for Mexico against Texas. However, on December 4th American forces under Taylor attacked Mexican positions near Chihuahua Cityü which resulted in the death of many soldiers and Generals Santa Anna and López de Santa Anna retreated back to Cudahy on December 5th due to lack of food and reinforcements. On December 11th Ulysses S Grant captured Chihuahua City after successfully assaulting its walls using artillery fire from long range cannons preparatory to launching assaults into the city from behind cover using infantry assault troops only weeks later during winter weather conditions (January 1865). In this way Ulysses S Grant demonstrated America’s growing military might which had allowed them to achieve Unite States independence from Great Britain more than two centuries earlier!
