The name comes from nearby Cudahy Lake. The area that now includes Cudahy was first inhabited by Mono people and other tribes before Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded in 1771. A post office called Cudahy was established in 1875, and lasted until 1912. In 1907, a group of settlers began to build what would become the town of Cudahy on land they had purchased from the Mono tribe. They named their new community after Samuel Morse Cudahy, an American scientist who had developed improved methods for Telegraph cable transmission in 1837. The town grew rapidly due to its position as an access point for pioneers moving westward during the gold rush period. By 1920, it had over 100 residents; by 1930 it had over 250; and by 1940 it had over 300 again. During World War II, many businesses were closed because of rationing but the town continued to grow nonetheless; by 1950 it contained more than 500 residents and 100 businesses). After years of growth came stability: In 1970, only 50 residents lived in Cudahy while 350 businesses stretched out across 10 acres (4 hectares). In 2000 however there was another surge in population with 1,500 residents coming online through online applications . Today’s economy is based largely on agriculture with around 60% of all jobs being related to raising crops or providing services for them such as irrigation or vehicle maintenance; aside from a few non-agricultural operations there are no large companies present within 5 miles (8 kilometers) of downtown core anyhow

From here he began growing grapes and exported them to Europe. The mill closed in 1875 but left a lasting legacy on Cudahy as it became one of America's leading wine producers for over seventy years until its closure in 1996. Today, there are several small businesses that continue to provide local jobs and support life within the community despite difficult times through their marketing campaigns and events like 4th of July BBQs and Christmas Caroling services for children with special needs
