Cudahy is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is located near Bakersfield and Stockton. The first permanent settler in what would become Cudahy was Wm. H. Smith who arrived in 1846 from Missouri. He founded the village of Smithville on the Rancho San Pedro east of present-day Cudahy. A post office was established in 1848, and for many years it served only as a stop on the Sarmiento Railroad which connected Bakersfield with Yosemite National Park and other nearby towns. In 1861, John Fenton purchased the rancho from William Hutton and built a cabin there which he called "Fenton's Fort". Fenton remained until 1865 when he sold his holdings to Captain Robert Eads who continued to live there until his death in 1887. Captain Eads married Anna Maria Woodruff (1831-1906) of Stockton and they had six children: Wesson Maud (1865-1953), Harry Dana (1867-1945), Edwin Forrest (1869-1951), Nellie May (1871-1950), Leroy Allen (1873-1941) and Anna Louise Fenton(born c 1903). From Captain Eads' second marriage to Alma Hanson circa 1893 until her death in 1984 there were also seven additional children: Isabelle Bingham(b 1905), Don Freeman(b 1912?), Kenneth Leland(b 1915?), Lloyd George Wiggs Jr.(b 1917?), Clarence Hilliard(b 1919?)
