The Culver City Coffee Company was founded in 1914 by Angelo Guglielmi, a Italian immigrant who started out as a grocery store clerk. The coffee industry in California began to take off after World War II when the war led to increased demand for goods produced in that state. In 1948, Angelo Guglielmi sold his company to Harry Roque and it continued operations until 1994 under the name of Roque Coffee Co-op. After Harry Roque's death, his son Tom took over management of the company and continue roasting and selling its coffee until 2003 when he sold it to Antonio Gallo Jr., who continues to operate it as Gallo Coffee Incorporated today. Culver City Coffee Company has been R & D'ing new ways to roast its beans since they opened their doors back in 1914! In 1849, Pasadena was annexed by Los Angeles County. On January 6, 1850, General Harrison signed an ordinance creating Los Angeles County; Culver City began to be included within it on January 14th. On December 3rd 1870, gold was discovered at Sultana Gulch east of downtown LA; soon thereafter people were looking for ways to capitalize on this find. A group led by James Waddell purchased 640 acres (240 hectares) south of downtown for $1 million dollars and renamed it "Wadsworth Heights". This site would become one of the most important business districts in LA due to its access to public transportation and its close proximity to other businesses and residences aroundLos Angeles Boulevard/Rancho Santa Ana Road/Highway 95 corridor

It would remain an important center for movie production until closed down by MGM in 1957 due to pollution concerns..
