In 1920, Deputy Chief Harry Eggleston donated his carpenter’s tools and supplies to help with construction project at UCLA campus – this project would eventually lead to UCLA becoming one of world-renowned universities! In 1937, Officer Willis Shaw gave his beloved 1929 Ford Coupe Convertible for use by Culver City’s first traffic unit – this vehicle would later become known as “The Blue Book Car”! From 1938 through 1945, Deputy Chief Harry Eggleston personally gifted each officer on duty with a new patrol car or motorcycle! Between 1922 and 1951 (during which time deputy chiefs were replaced by commanders), eggserted over 350 cars/motorcycles/bicycles/skis etc., all providing essential law enforcement assistance during times of emergency or crisis! In 1955–1956 Commander Edward Jaffe personally gifted 4 motorcycles (one model “Black Beauty”) valued at $2 thousand each…..to supplement our existing fleet….This program helped provide us with valuable extra capacity during difficult periods….It marked an epochal change for us as we began using motorcycles insteadof horses for patrols!!!!! In 1969 Captain George Kellingdon gifted his 1928 Rolls-Royce Ghost Carpenters Van for use as our Traffic Unit Command Vehicle…………………..This special van served as our main means OF transportationduring high speed chases…………………..It still resides today inside our command building…………………………….As you can see from this photo Capt George Kellingdon left a very warm memory behindfor all who usedhis OldCarVan………………….. truly something special indeed
