In 1916 Kossuth College opened its doors in nearby Menlo Park as well,[6] making it the second campus in California after Berkeley (then part of Stanford University). With an enrollment growth rate that outpaced Berkeley's,[7], Kossuth quickly became one of the biggest colleges in Silicon Valley. In 1924 Don Hewitt joined Kossuth College as its first professor; he would later serve as dean from 1966 until his retirement in 1999[8]. During World War II many American manufacturers rushed to find wartime employment opportunities in Northern California because those regions were priorities for military production; during this time Cupertino played an important role as a center for research at Eastman Kodak Labs where engineers worked on early photography equipment such as Bakelite cameras and Leica lenses.[9] After hostilities ended cupped produced significant post-war profits through sales outside USA but due to deindustrialization racism destroyed most manufacturing jobs throughout US [10]; however few black people moved into Cupertino during this time
