Army gifts have been a part of the Cypress community for many years. It was in the 1940s when Cypress began its affiliation with the United States Army. The first gift from the army arrived in 1942, when a jeep and supplies were delivered to Cypress by truck. This initial gift was followed by other items such as uniforms and tools. A large contingent of soldiers came to visit during World War II, and they brought back many souvenirs and donations. In 1946, an additional jeep was brought into town by the army, this time with food and ammunition inside. From then on, military gifts became regular arrivals at Cypress businesses. In 1951, the first post office opened in town, which helped further connect Cypress with the military. Gifts from local residents continued to be sent to troops stationed overseas until 1974, when Operation Neptune’s Spear ended World War II. At that point, all US forces had withdrawn from Europe so there were no longer any tangible reminders of wartime service here in California's Central Coast region. However, Cypress has never stopped receiving donations from members of the military or civilians alike; it is now one of only a handful of communities in California that still receives donated goods from our armed forces! Today we continue to receive donations from both private individuals and government entities alike- something that means a lot to us here at Cypress! We are proud to support our country through these various forms of donation and appreciate everything that our Armed Forces do for us each day!

Cypress, California is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 34,451 at the 2010 census. Cypress is part of the San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Cypress National Forest covers much of southwestern Riverside County and northwestern Orange County. The area that now comprises Cypress was first inhabited by the Tongva people who lived on the eastern edge of present-day Cypress Creek Valley. In 1565, Spanish settlers founded Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico in what is now Downtown Orangevale. A year later they founded Mission San José de la Luz on Bolsa Road east of present-day City Hall Drive. The mission’s church and school were completed in 1692 and 1821 respectively; however, all three missions were abandoned within a few years due to Indian attacks and floods. In 1800, Jose Maria Pinilla donated land to become part of what would become Riverside County; this donation included an area around present-day Cypress Creek Valley that became known as Rancho Los Osos (later Rancho Mirage). In 1851 JR Stephens donated another piece of land to create Parkview Heights off West Side Highway (now Route 246) which became home to many early citrus farmers including J P Stephens Sr., J P Stephens Jr., W H Carruth and others who started or managed large citrus orchards along Parkview Avenue today's Spring Street corridor between Lakeshore Boulevard and Rancho Mirage Boulevard near Cathedral City College Campus where there are streets named after some of these early fruit growers: Chavez Avenue (the name given to Spring Streets east of Lakeshore Boulevard), Pacific Avenue (west side highway between Cathedral City College Campus and Lakeshore Boulevard), Miracle Mile (northwest corner intersection of Interstate 10/Route 246 southbound just past junction with I-10), Citrus Avenue (southwestern corner intersection Interstate 10/Route 395 southbound just past junction with I-10) etc.; these families continued growing oranges until very recently when large commercial production stopped following one major blight - grapefruit rust! This blight greatly affected orange crops during the late 1920s through 1940s leading some growers to abandon or sell their holdings; however even though several million acres across North America were planted with grafted grapefruit trees during this time period little success was achieved either in terms of fruit production or conservation! Resilience has been evident throughout history however as hasimurapport for local agriculture when necessary thru support from governmental agencies like USDA National Agricultural Research Program under contract from Department Of Agriculture called The Grape Rust Prevention Program which focused on developing new fungicide & herbicide programs specific to grapefruit rust!

Cypress was named for J.D. Cypress, an early settler who platted the area in 1879. The community was first established as a small town on Cypress Avenue between Sunland and Riverside Roads before it was moved to its present location in 1950. The development of Cypress began with the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad's Redlands Line from Los Angeles to Redlands through Cypress Canyon in 1877. The town quickly became known for its produce and Processing Plant #1 – located on Crescent Drive – played a major role in helping to make local meat available to consumers throughout Southern California. In addition, many well-known people associated with industry or politics were born or raised in Cypress: Air Force General Curtis LeMay (1925-2013), Mayor Edwin Ewing (1902-1994), businessman Howard Hughes (1921-2009), actor/director William Holden (1915-1989), Governor Jerry Brown (1975-2011) and Congressman Darrell Issa (2003-present). In recent years, much progress has been made by the community towards revitalization and growth; however, more work still needs to be done in order to ensure that Cypress remains one of today’s most vibrant communities

The area was first settled by the Yokuts, who were known for their basketry and weaving techniques. Cypress was named for a large tree that grew near the original location of the town. The first post office in Cypress was established in 1887. In 1916, Cypress became a City under state law. It experienced rapid growth during World War II as many people moved to the area to work in the munitions plants and defense industry. In 1951, Cypress became an independent city with its own government and mayor. The population declined during the 1990s due to economic decline and high crime rates, but has since recovered thanks to new development and job opportunities.
