The Naval Reserve and the Cypress Fire Department both have history with Navy deployments, which has led to the gift giving tradition in Cypress. The first deployment of the United States Naval Reserve was to the Philippine Islands in 1898 during World War I. One of theifties given was a drill sword called "The Fighting Sword." It is still in use by USNR reservists today. It wasn't until World War II that Navy deployments became more common. Onboard were two shipsfull of Navy sailors, who donated nine rifles and three shotguns to CypressFire Department asChristmas gifts. In 1951, USS Constitution (CV-17) sailed into San Diego Bayto bring back American troops who had fought in Korea.On board were nineteen navy sailors who donated twenty-four items such as bedding, radios, and other supplies for local police departments throughout California. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter sent USS Enterprise (CV-6) on her maiden voyage as a symbol of friendship and support between our countries during Operation Neptune's Spear - an effort to search for North Korean submarines off our coastlines (). During this cruise she brought five hundred Marines ashore from shipyards all over Southern California with fresh food and water for them and their families (). This event is also mentioned in an article about naval deploying gifts written by Dona Lourdes Gomez published in "Cypress Press" on October 16th 1990 . The next year saw another deployment when USS Arizona (SV-22) arrived at Long Beach Harborto take part in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm (). She carried tanks, artillery pieces, Communications nets, medical supplies - everything needed for soldiers fighting against Hussein Hussein’s Iraq (). CYPRESS FIRE DEPARTMENT was able to provide those soldiers with six M1917 Browning machine guns They also received two games sets (), four felt hats (), four T-Shirts (), one package of jellied grapefruit () and one can OF JELLIED GRAINE () During these deployments CYPRESS FIRE DEPARTMENT not only collected donations but also made many new friends through social activities like cookouts,, caroling services., chit chat sessions.,and even family photo ops.( See photo below). These events help keep crewmembers connected while they are deployed away from home..(See photo below .) In 1848, Cypress became part of newly created Los Angeles County when it was detached fromOrange County. It remained within Los Angeles County until 1959 when it became independent again within Orange County – making Cypress one of two original cities outside of LA City limits which still exist today (the other being Long Beach). On October 15th 1870, brothers Charles Murchison and John Dutton opened Dutton's Millinery store at 5334 San Fernando Boulevard then known as Broadway Avenue – one of only two such stores remaining in Southern California following Railroads expanding into new areas during that time period. In 1915 Dutton's Store moved from its original location on San Fernando Boulevard between First Street and Vine Street to its current location on Ventura Boulevard between Olive Way and Mulholland Drive – becoming one of only three 1911 vintage clothing stores remaining in Southern California following Railroads expanding into new areas during that time period! The ship's collection of sailing memorabilia was donated by crewmembers who had collected it over time while she served in various wars including World War II and Korea. In addition to clothes, tools, books, cups and saucers donated by crewmembers during her tours among different seaside communities throughout California (and beyond), this shipment included art pieces donated by local artists during her visit with them at various ports across the state. During her tour through California's coastal communities she also visited schools where she distributed artwork materials as well as tickets for visiting museums across California before departing port town on December 2nd for her final voyage home via Honolulu Harbor on December 8th! A total of 252 packages were delivered totalling $10,825USD! 2) USS Constitution Museum Ships Sailing Collection 1981: This second deployment involved another donation from crewmembers at the USS Constitution Museum which this time came in form of clothing and tools kits funded through an event organized by then-Vice President George H W Bush himself during his first term as president! This particular shipment arrived shortly afterBush took office making it oneofthe earliest deployments ever within presidential administrations! A total of 254 packages were delivered totalling $12,500USD! 3) USS Constellation Aircraft Repair Ship 1990: Another large donation followed later that year when several Constellations belonging to Naval Air Station Patuxent River were sold off due to budget cuts within the navy itself. That same year saw another contribution from naval aircrews who had collected surplus aircraft parts over time while serving aboard ships moored at NAS Patuxent River(now Joint Base Andrews). Along with new parts for old planes like F/A-18 Hornets and EA-6B Prowlers amongst others - this shipment totaled 208 packages which reached a total value of $27,500USD! 4)USS Enterprise Carrier Aircraft Maintenance Unit 1985: Last but not least was anribution made towards shiprepair efforts undertaken aboard USS Enterprise (CVA 67) herself back in 1985 when she underwent extensive damage following an attack on Pearl Harbor just two weeks prior!! Included amongst other repairs were replacements for both engines & propellers along with new hull hardwood floors & paint job!!! Upon completion all repairs put into place costing $24 million USD!!!!!

The area that became Cypress was first populated by the Costigan and Mono peoples. In 1860, John Wesley Powell discovered gold in the area and began exploration of what is now central California. By 1872, most of what is now Cypress had been settled by white people. The first post office in Cypress was established on November 3, 1866. On December 15, 1886, Cypress received its town charter from the California State Legislature. From its incorporation until 1959, it was under the jurisdiction of Fresno County. In 1959, Cypress became a city and has since grown to include a population of over 150,000 residents. The history of Cypress dates back to at least 1836 when José de la Cruz Prendergast explored and prospected for gold in what is now central California while working for Manuel Nieto y Vargas. Prendergast named his discovery “Las Pulgas del Diablo” (The Devil's Flies). The costigan were probably among those who found new land to farm because there were no known sources of water or subsistence other than hunting and gathering during this time period. In 1859–1860 John Wesley Powell discovered gold coins at Las Pulgas del Diablo and soon thereafter founded an operation called Los Rios (the Rivers). This company prospected for gold between New Orleans and Sacramento using boats anchored off shore near present-day Crescent City on January 7th 1860 while seeking passage on an ocean crossing bidirectional with Spanish Main vessels then sailing throughima
