The United States Air Force is a branch of the military that provides air support to friendly nations. It was founded in 1947 and its mission is to “provide logistic and operational support for operations against hostile forces”. The USAF has over 190,000 troops spread across 43 countries. While many people may not know about the USAF’s deployed gift history, it is an important part of the military’s culture and history. Since 1947, the USAF has sent gifts to friends and allies all over the world. From Operation Overlord (the Normandy landings) to Desert Storm (the war in Iraq), the USAF has contributed so much to our nation’s security. In Daly City, California, the unit sends Gifts of Honor every year on Armistice Day. These gifts are typically items such as figurines or collectibles from World War II or Korea. Gift history can be traced back to 1942 when Gold Star Mothers were started in response to then- President Franklin D Roosevelt’s address recognizing fallen servicemen and women during World War II. The program continued under President Harry Truman with more than 5,000 mothers receiving medals from him throughout his presidency. The first deployment of gift troops took place during Operation Neptune Spear in 1966 when 3,500 soldiers from Guam arrived in Hawaii for a three-month deployment as a humanitarian gesture following the political unrest there. Today, there are more than 1 million Gift Troops stationed around the world fulfilling their unique mission by providing logistical and operational support for US Military operations worldwide

Daly City is a city in San Francisco Bay Area, California. The population was 86,205 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in the Bay Area and one of the most populous cities in Northern California. Daly City has an incorporated area of 24 square miles (60 km2). The first permanent settler in what is now Daly City was Nicholas Daly, who built a adobe ranch on current-day Mission Street in 1853. The name may have been inspired by Captain George Daly's visit to San Francisco Bay in 1836 and his observation that "the bay looks just like Ireland". In 1854, Father Juan Crespo established Mission Dolores on current-day Market Street near where modern-day UCSF Medical Center stands. In 1861, John Fenton bought Rancho Rinconada from José Castro for $5,000 and renamed it Rancho Adobe after himself. On February 14, 1865, Mayor James Kenedy granted town status to Coyote Valley which included present day Daly City. In 1863 William Hammond built a new home at 8th andMission Streets which served as the provisional county seat until November 14, 1869 when Judge Augustus Biddle awarded official County Seat honors to San Francisco with Resolution No. 3498 proposed by Supervisor Elijah Jethro Holmes pursuant to law § 557 of 1862 entitled "An Act To establishe a Court House And Jail In The Town Of San Francisco" and also cited An Act of Assembly passed January 10th following same year providing for organization thereof." A post office called Niles had been established on August 12th,1875 by order of Governor Manuel Larkin; however mail did not come through there until 1898 when it was moved from Oakland to Daly City due to lack of available transportation during those days. A school district was formed out of parts of three other local districts on March 1st 1897 (Unincorporated Community School District #1) when all but part of unincorporated Pacific Heights were annexed into the Municipal District erected around downtown’s growth following incorporation; this included much of today’s southeastern portion including what is now Golden Gate Park In 1904 Elisha White opened White’s Drug Store at Eighth and Harrison Streets which became one of America’s first newsstands—it continued operation until 1949 Daly City experienced its greatest population growth between World War II and postwar years as Angelenos relocated here from other areas in Northern California such as Hayward or Fremont During this time many more businesses came online such as Netflix ( founded 1985 ), Google ( founded 1998 ), Airbnb ( founded 2008 ), Apple Inc.'s then new Cupertino campus located northwest across Masonic Passage from downtown (), Facebook (founded 2004), Yahoo! Japan Inc.'s main site located east across Masonic Passage from downtown (), Twitter (@twitter) () , Costco Wholesale Corporation's main site located south across Masonic Passage from downtown (). Today many large companies have locations within or adjacent to downtown including Hewlett Packard Enterprise Software Technologies Headquarters (). Downtown also includes art galleries such as O'Neill Gallery & Studios (), ABC Television Company's studios behind bounded sidewalks separating Haight Street north/west along Fifth Avenue between Masonry Way northeastward nearly bisecting Alamo Square westward thence southwesterly thence southeastward along First Avenue past Civic Center Plaza before terminating at Fillmore Street ) . Many cultural institutions such as AT&T Park - home field for the San Francisco 49ers - are located nearby including DNAinfo/KQED-TV's Main News Building (). Some smaller businesses survive primarily because they are situated close to schools or shopping centers rather than being anchored inside buildings like Sears or Macy's stores
The USAF deployed gift history in World War II. The GIs received many gifts from the military, including cigarettes and cigars. This was done to show appreciation for their service. Gifts were also given as thank yous for specific tasks or missions. In Korea, the USAF donated a number of items such as radios, T-Shirts, hats and coffee mugs to the soldiers. These items were used to help communication between troops on the front lines and back home. In Vietnam, presents were given to servicemen along with food and ammunition supplies. Many times these gifts were in disguise so as not to horrify the locals or get them involved in combat. In Iraq and Afghanistan, donations of clothes, shoes and other items have been made. In 1948, Daly City became an independentcity again when it detached from San Francisco and joined the Bay Area Statistical Report as an independent city with its own government and budget. On September 17th of that year, DalyCity suffered devastating fires that destroyed almost all of its buildings and killed at least thirty-six people
