The Daly City military deployment gift history can be traced back to the early 1800s when a small detachment of the United States Army was stationed in what is now Daly City. The soldiers from this detachment, known as the 1st Infantry Regiment, were responsible for garrisoning and protecting the town during thegolden age of California. After the war ended, these companies merged into Company C which remained stationed at Fort Point until it disbanded in 1923. In 1925, a new company formed from parts of two disbanded infantry battalions (Company E & F) called Battalion 10 which participated in World War II along with other local units such as Air National Guard unit 182nd Fighter Squadron (A-10). The battalion's activation took place on December 12th 1941 under Colonel John Wainwright who also served as Commanding Officer for Battalion 10 from its formation until his retirement on October 15th 1945. The squadron remained there until 1953 when it returned home and rejoined the U.S Army Reserve. In 1990, during Operation Desert Storm, the 5th Infantry Division spent several weeks deploying to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Neptune's Spear before returning home two months later. During that deployment they used their barracks located at 909 Sutter Street as an airbase for Operation Demolition which destroyed over 100 terrorist targets inside Iraq.. In 1998-2000 the Military installation known as Camp Pendleton - which is now Joint Base Lewis McChord - was closed due to budgetary constraints within DoD and reopened as Marine Corps Air Station Miramar ( MCAS Miramar). MCAS Miramar became operational on 8 October 1999 through take-over of Andersen AFB by Marine Corps Forces Hawaii (MCFH) following its closure at Pearl Harbor 25 years earlier on 12 September 1988 with resultant reduction of Marines ashore at Hickam AFB Hawaii from 16 units down to 10 units effective 31 December 1989 thru 6 March 2000 inclusive; this occurred concurrent with establishment of Joint Task Force Coral Sea(JTF Coral Sea) under command of Commander First Marine Amphibious Force (CAMP Foliage) commander 2nd FleetHQ/11th Fleet responsible for Naval Surface Warfare Center Kaneohe Bay Hawaiian Islands acting concurrently with Commander Naval Air Support Command Pacific Fleet who had responsibility previously for Air Defense CommandHawaii Area Units Components Kaneohe Bay NAVAIRPAC Detachment 3 which provided single source air defense against aircraft threats operating out of Kaua'i airspace; all these changes were made possible thru transfer from Headquarters United States Army Forces Far East Command (USAFFE) Washington District On 19 January 1993 transferred from US Army Garrison Manoa Kaiwi

In 1870, the California Central Railroad came to Daly City and built a depot there. The city experienced its heyday during the Gold Rush of 1849-1851 when it had a population of 509 people. However, the population fell after that period asademically due to outmigration from Daly City to other parts of California. In 1906, the San Francisco earthquake destroyed much of downtown San Francisco and killed more than 500 people including many prominent citizens such as Mayor George Hearn and judge James Folsom. Many people in Daly City were evacuated before or during the quake because they lived near Financial Districts which were severely damaged by the quake. Consequently, most of what is now known about Daly City's history comes from stories told by victims or witnesses who lived there at that time.
