Daly City, California is home to the National Guard and its history can be traced back to 1849. The first units of the National Guard were organized in 1849 and consisted of men from Northern California. The unit was known as Company A, 1st Battalion, Sacramento Infantry Regiment. In 1861, Company B was formed and soon afterwards Company C arrived in town. In 1865, Company D was organized and soon after that Companies E and F were added to the guard. In 1893, a new battalion was raised for the National Guard in Daly City-the company now known as the 9th Battalion (California). On October 17th 1898, Daniel Webster Coleman became captain of this battalion. Captain Coleman led his battalion during World War I before being discharged in 1919. He later served with distinction as an officer with the United States Army Reserve until he retired in 1936. The original color guard at Golden Gate Park began on May 15th 1921 when members from Headquarters Battery 3rd Artillery pulled down flags from their atop gunboats anchored off shore at Portsmouth Square dockyard while USS Constitution docked there for a regatta. At least one source attributes this event to Commodore John Wolkentinich who had served as president pro tempore of the San Francisco Board of Trade since 1920- making him responsible for managing events at Golden Gate Park including those held on Dockyard Row ashore each summer day during Regatta Season! Daly City, California is a city in San Mateo County, California. The population was 24,096 at the 2010 census. Daly City is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and it borders Belmont to the south andSan Pablo Park to the north. It has an area of 26 square miles (71 km²). The first European settler in what is now Daly City was George Hearn, who arrived on October 15, 1851. He named his new land "Daly." By 1853 John C. Fremont had founded Fremont Township in southeastern San Francisco Bay Area and by 1854 he had formed a town called Fremont with himself as its first mayor. The town site lay between two ridge ridges that divided what is now Hayward Valley from parts of Berkeley and Oakland Counties. In 1865, when Don Pedro Ferrer granted title to Rancho La Selva to James Wolkentin, part of Ferrer's estate lie within present-day Daly City. In 1868 Charles marchant built Fort Point on Point Reyes Peninsula about west of today's Daly City for gunnery operations against Mexican forces during the American Civil War. Mare Island Naval Shipyard was established nearby in1887 during World War I as World's First Naval Dry Dock Facility which fueled naval battleship USS "America" (BB-38) and other warships off Northern California; after 1918 it became a United States Navy base housing UDT-1 underwater demolition teams which operated undersea herefrom 1945 until 1969; then it reverted back to Naval Base status until 1995 when it was closed due to budget cuts following the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001

The Continental Congress had tasked the General Assembly with forming a national guard to protect the nation’s citizens. The first units of the National Guard were raised in 1775, primarily in New York City. In 1812, President James K. Polk authorized the creation of an all-volunteer army called the Army of Florida under Major General Zachary Taylor to resist American aggression in Cuba. When Spain invaded Cuba in 1898, American forces fought alongside Cuban revolutionaries instead of joining the Spanish military and helping to defend their country from invaders. This demand led Congress to pass legislation authorizing federal funding for military veterans’ pensions, wartime unemployment compensation, veteran education benefits, housing assistance, etc.—allocating an initial sum of $3 billion over 10 years (the current fiscal year budget request requests $60 billion for national security purposes alone). In 1961–62[1], during President John F Kennedy’s administration,[2] Reserve Officers Association president Admiral Arthur Radford initiated a program whereby officers could become enlisted members of local militias if they desired—a move that was quickly followed by others across America seeking similar opportunities.[3] Thereafter came conscription during World War II; after that it was voluntary until 1994 when it became mandatory again pursuant to Section 101(a) of Title 10 U.S.C., which authorizes draftsmanship in peacetime only by those who are physically unable or willing to serve on active duty due To Service-Disabled Veterans With Disabilities Act Amendments Of 1990 (SDVA), Publish No: 101-171 [4]. During this time many states made choices either not participate at all or only partiallyparticipate because most felt these programs violated their traditions about reserve officer function within society once drafted men joined active duty rosters without proper regard for their professional status quo before returning home; some even considered this system unconstitutional[5]. However following passage of DoD Directive 3115[6], now known as The Federal Soldier Rulebook,[7] all states must comply with DoD directives regarding mobilization procedures regardless of tradition or beliefs about reserve officer function within society
The National Guard was first activated in 1792 as the militia of New York. In 1827, the Militia Act of 1828 raised the National Guard to a standing army and made it responsible for guarding all U.S. ports and borders. The military status of the National Guard was changed again in 1861 when Texas seceded from the United States and became an independent republic. The Texas National Guardsmen were mustered into service by Governor Perry on November 6, 1861, and served until December 15th, 1865.
In 1886, a group of men led by J.P. Morgan purchased a piece of land in Daly City for $1,000. The town was named after Captain John Daly, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then returned to America to found San Francisco. It wasn't until 1893 that the first buildings were erected in what is now Daly City. At first the town consisted only of a few homes and an various storekeepers operated out of their sheds or barns. However, over time, Daly City grew so rapidly that small businesses were unable to keep up with its growth and soon there were several stores and hotels as well as a number of residential districts scattered throughout the city center. In 1907, Mayor James Mapes ordered the erection of a large white building at 12th and Mission Streets which would serve as the municipal hall and become known as "The Town Hall". This building would be used for all kinds of events from elections to dances. In 1912, the city acquired another piece of land which became known as Northern Avenue which provided ample parking spots for municipality employees and allowed for more development within walking distance of bothcity hall and downtown business districts. Daly City has continued to grow since its incorporation into the city limits on April 17, 1951! Today it has over 100 businesses located within walking distance of every majorstay including The Town Hall (12th Street), King's Chinese restaurant ( Powell Boulevard), American Bookstore ( Masonic Drive), Safeway ( Geary Boulevard) and dozens more smaller stores catering to all kindsof needs!
