The gift history for this deployment begins in 1984 when a Boeing E-3A Sentry AWACS was delivered to Delano AFB as part of a gift from the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) to the base. ThisAWACS is considered to be one of the most advanced and capable airborne warning and control systems currently available. In 1992, a second E-3A Sentry was added to the wing and this system has been used extensively during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Noble Eagle. In 2006, another E-3A Sentry was gifted to Delano AFB by the USAFE in commemoration of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This system is also considered highly advanced and provides important situational awareness support for USAFEF operations.
