The Delano coffee company was founded in 1912 by Charles and Myrtle DeVault. The company started out making coffee for the local grocery store. In 1922, the DeVaults moved their business to a new location on Railroad Avenue in Delano. The first store featured seven-barrels per barrel of coffee and three different types of roasts: French press, Peruvian roast, and Indonesian roast. In 1930, the Delano Coffee Company purchased a small farm near Chico that produced beans from start to finish. The farm continued to produce beans until 1979 when it was sold to a group of investors who renamed it Gevalia Coffee Incorporated. The current owner of Gevalia Coffee is Harry Ellison who bought the farm in 1984.

In 1847, Luigi Delrio founded La Casa Bianca Coffee House in Rome, Italy with his own roasted maga beans. In 1912, Café Orientale was opened in Paris by Gustave Flaubert and Jules Michelin. In 1922, Vittorio Emanuele II decreed that all Italian restaurants must serve maga coffee as their main drink. Today, maga coffee can be found throughout Europe and North America

Delano, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. It is located about 35 miles (56 km) east of Fresno and about 50 miles (80 km) north of Bakersfield. The early history of Delano can be traced back to 1848 when Mexican nationals arrived in what is now Delano County. They founded ranchos and villages around present-day Delano and Vinton townships. A post office was established at Delano in 1857, and by 1860 the community had grown to include a Temperance Hall, schoolhouse, interpreter's house, store, and three churches. In 1865 the first railroad reached Delano; it became part of the San Francisco Bay Area Railway system shortly thereafter. In 1868 Jens Jensen married Mary Jane Thomson from nearby Visalia; they were the first white couple to live in town. The Jensen family soon built two large frame houses on what is now East Second Street; one still stands today as a museum property known as "The Richards House." By 1870 there were also several stores, an hotel/motel, blacksmith shop, restaurant/barbecue place called "The Hounds" (now defunct), and a few residences buildings including The Richardson House. In 1871 Methodist Episcopal Church was organized by Revs Clements Meeks and Wm Hoggard with assistance from James Wickersham of Sacramento; within 2 years it had outgrown its original building on Third Street into a 3-story brick structure which still stands today across from East First Avenue Schoolhouse - considered one of the earliest examples of an elementary school in Sonoma County! A post office was established at Delano again in 1875; it continued operations until 1907 under various names including Northridge Station (1877), Needles Station (1879), Southridge Station (1881), etc.; during this time period many businesses moved to or relocated toDelano from other parts of Northern California because goods brought down Santa Clara River by steamboats could not be transported anymore due to frequently rough weather conditions along that stretch of river corridor! On October 24th 1886 tragedy struck when 4 women & their baby girl named Anna died after being run over by horse & buggy while crossing Main Street just south of present day 7th Avenue Schoolhouse - one mile east off East Second Street - during what later became known as "the evening rush hour". This event has been memorialized annually as Anna's Night Walk throughout most of Northern California each year since then! In 1896 two farmers near present day Healdsburg bought 8 square miles surrounding present day Delanos limits for $25 per acre ($2 million at current prices); this land became known as Rancho El Cajon del Oro - home to some OFA dairy cattle herd up until 1940s! One interesting note about this early area: although much like much of Central Valley todayl primarily agricultural with some scattered woodland & mountains coverings remaining mostly intact even into recent decades despite numerous firefighter & search & rescue operations conducted there!), accordingto contemporaneous maps prepared for local assessor John Fenton during his 1895–96 review upon his predecessor's death (& later updated numerous times through various deeds taken overduring ensuing years!), all but onesquare mile (~27 acres) adjacent Road Townsite remained rural undeveloped chaparral until circa 1960s when development proceeded apace... nonetheless significant evidence remains extant for both pre-20th century life hereabouts!]
Delano was founded by Hugh Delano in 1852 as a small town on the banks of the San Joaquin River. The settlement grew rapidly, and within a few years it had become one of the most important towns in California. In 1872, Delano became part of the newly formed Union County. In 1907, it became part of Contra Costa County.
