The United States Army Garrison at Desert Hot Springs, California was the first military installation in this area and it remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in Northern Nevada today. The soldiers who served here left a lasting legacy that can be seen to this day. In 1887, General John C. Fremont established Fort Rosecrans as an army post in what is now Mojave National Preserve. In 1907, the post was renamed Fort Bliss after Major General James E. Bliss, Commander-in-Chief of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I. The fort functioned as a garrison for troops stationed at nearby Yuma Field Arsenal until 1927 when it was transferred to the newly created U.S.Army Garrison District No. 11 at Desert Hot Springs under First Lieutenant Colonel Harry Wohlgemuths command as part of Major General Frank Andrews’ reorganization of army posts throughout Nevada Territory following World War I. At Fort Bliss, duty Soldiers took advantage of a large outdoor pool and Spa which still exists today (opened to the public on May 6th 1912). During World War II, Ft Bliss became an ammunition depot and later an airfield used by Army Air Corps bombers during hostilities in North Africa and Europe. It finally closed its doors in 1961 as part of general reestablishment following the end of hostilities with China and came into being as Desert Hot Springs Army Depot Museum on October 1st 1961 with over 10 thousand artifacts representing every phase of American military history from colonial times through Vietnam era!

In 1957, Desert Barracks reopened as an armory with barracks for officers, a mess hall and troop barracks for enlisted men and women. Today, desert barrack remains an important part of Army life in Southern California. Desert Hot Springs is a small city in Riverside County, California. The City of Desert Hot Springs was incorporated on September 6, 1912. It is located just outside the city limits of Riverside. The population was 24,890 at the 2010 census. In August 1912, the General Mining and Manufacturing Company organized a town meeting to consider incorporation of the town into a larger city because there were no other towns within 10 miles (16 km) of its location. The first residents of Desert Hot Springs were about 50 people who had come from adjacent Palm Valley and sold property in what is now downtown for $1 an acre (0.48 ha).
