The Coast Guard Station Desert Hot Springs in California was founded on December 12, 1915. It is one of the oldest and most active Coast Guard stations in the Western Hemisphere. In its early years, the station was a small adobe building on the base of Mount Whitney. The first commanding officer of Desert Hot Springs was Lt. Colonel John L. Smith who served from 1916-1917. In 1924, the station moved to its present location on Mount Whitney Boulevard in Desert Hot Springs proper. At that time, it became an important stop for law enforcement officers patrolling Yosemite National Park and other areas near Lake Tahoe. The station played a vital role in keeping public order during World War II when it operated as a naval airfield and Harbor majority shipyard. The Desert Hot Springs Coast Guard station was established in 1912 as the second Coast Guard station on the south side of Palm Springs. It was later renamed for Major General John J. Pershing, who served as Commandant of the Marine Corps from 1919-1935 and then became Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Europe from 1935-1939. The Station has been used to provide security for visitors to Palm Springs since 1912 and has a number of amenities including a large Mariner's Museum, a harbor with boats available for rent, an airfield with several airplanes and helicopters, and a golf course.
Desert Hot Springs, California is a small town in Orange County, California. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census. It is located in the southeast corner of Orange County and is bordered by Riverside to the north; Malibu to the east; and Yorba Linda to the south. The hot springs are located on U.S. Route 101 just east of Thermalito Road and west of Interstate 5. They were first mentioned in 1875 when Jephson Cone wrote about them as "a beautiful spot near Los Angeles" during his travels through that area. In 1911, Halsey Gentry bought land adjacent to Desert Hot Springs from Mexican land grants and started a tourist colony there that became known as Gentry's Wells Resort & Spa today. In 1951, Desert Hot Springs incorporated as a city with an estimated population of 6,000 people. The economy here has been Mostly Service-based with some Manufacturing taking place but it is slowly returning to its more traditional agricultural roots Today, many people come for their health benefits from the thermal waters including infrared saunas, therapeutic massages (including aromatherapy), relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation, horseback riding, camping and hiking among others activities which can be found all around the city limits

Through annual events like “Christmas at Sea” or “CGC Great Lakes Cruise” – which bring together coast guard officers, civilians, children (of all ages), and officials from other agencies – they are able to show their support for our communities while honoring our mutual respect.

Desert Hot Springs is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the San Joaquin River about half-way between Stockton and Bakersfield. The springs were discovered by George Ohlenbach in 1867 while working for the Central Pacific Railroad. Ohlenbach named them after his mother's birthplace in Germany—the "Volkssprings," which he also found near Girdwood, Arizona. hot spring water eventually became available to everyone living near the springs due to a combination of geothermal activity, human intervention (washing dishes and bathing with it), and irrigation from nearby reservoirs. In 1915, Mary Lyon Coolidge organized an American Legion post here as part of her war work effort; it remains one of only a few posts still active in Kern County today. The post consisted of a tent city around what is now the town square that hosted military personnel and their families during World War I; later troop quarters were built onsite adjacent to Water Tower Park reservoir where they continue to be used today. A small shopping center was constructed next door during World War II but was destroyed by fire in 1945; reconstruction started immediately and continued until 1957 when it finally closed because of budget cuts caused by droughts brought on by global warming. In 1959–1960 Mrs. Coolidge opened Desert Inn & Spa here which operated until 1984 when it closed due to vandalism by visitors who made off with artwork and other property damage; restoration began soon afterward and it currently operates as a bed&breakfast establishment called The Desert Inn & Spa Resort (formerly known as Red Rock Ranch). Today much of what used to be desert Hot Springs has been developed into more suburban areas such as Stockton or Bakersfield although some parts are still preserved including Water Tower Park reservoir where you can find several pools, gardens,and various exhibits inside and outside its walls!
Desert Hot Springs, California was founded in 1912 by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The town was originally named Springerville, but it changed its name to Desert Hot Springs because of the hot springs that were located there. In 1935, the city of Palm Springs was established in nearby Wrightwood and Desert Hot Springs became a part of Palm Springs.
