In December of 2015, a small coffee shop called Maga Coffee opened its doors in the Desert Hot Springs Resort and Casino. The coffee shop was started by two friends who had been working together for years. Maga Coffee is a artisanal coffee house that specializes in maga beans, which are Ethiopian beans that have been roasted on site. The first time I visited Maga Coffee was during the holiday season. It was snowing outside and the inside of the coffee shop was full of warmth and comfort. It felt like home to me. I love how the staff knows their customers by name, and they always make sure to get to know you as a person before providing any beverages or snacks. They also offer unique gifts such as postcards with photos of their locations around the world. I can't say enough good things about Maga Coffee! I hope to be able to come back soon and enjoy some amazing maga bean drinks myself!

In 1963, a new cafe called The Riverside Café opened at 12th Avenue and Market Place which still stands today as an historical landmark. In 1984, maga coffee beans were introduced to America when they were roasted by Jerry Seinfeld at his restaurant Au Bon Pain in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood.
Desert Hot Springs is an idyllic, isolated community located in the Mojave Desert of California. The town was founded in 1911 bymining entrepreneurs H.L. Hill and W.J. Mason, who named it after a hot springs on their property in central Arizona where they had been staying while mining for silver. The hot springs became known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the desert, and over time the town grew to include a number of small businesses, a post office, and a few dozen homes. In the 1920s and 1930s many residents left the area due to continued drought conditions, but by World War II most people had returned and enjoyed increased tourism from both military personnel stationed at nearby Carson Air Force Base and recreational travelers coming to see Mono Lake, Death Valley National Park, and other attractions within easy reach. Today Desert Hot Springs remains an unassuming outpost with its own unique culture and history which is often forgotten amid more recent arrivals from surrounding communities such as Palm Springs or Riverside. Desert Hot Springs is a small town located in Joshua Tree National Park, California. The springs were first known to the local Native Americans, who used them for irrigation and to cook their food. In 1879, General William Tecumseh Sherman visited the area and discovered a hot spring on his trip west. He named it Sherman's Spring after him. Desert Hot Springs grew rapidly due to its natural resources- including water from the springs and the nearby mountains- as well as tourism. By 1912, more than 1,000 people lived in Desert Hot Springs. Today, it remains a small town with only a few hundred residents.
Desert Hot Springs was founded in 1879 by the American businessman, George H. Stephens. The town was named after him because of the springs that were found there. The original wells were very small and did not produce any water until 1886 when a new well was drilled by Stephens and his partner, James W. Fitzgerald. By 1907, Desert Hot Springs had over 100 residents and it boasted a library, post office, Methodist church, public health department, fire station and several hotels. However, during World War II the town experienced many difficulties due to its strategic location as an airfield for the USAAF during World War II. In 1951 desert hot springs became an Unincorporated community within Los Angeles County and it has since been declined by federal officials as being uneconomical to maintain
