Some other notable deployments include: 1998 – A shipment of personalized blankets and sweaters arrived at Marine Barracks Yuma AZ after being distributed among servicemen stationed throughout Southern California; 2002 – A shipment arrived at Marine Barracks Quantico VA following distribution amongst servicemen stationed throughout Virginia; 2003 - A detachment of marines shipped gift parcels consisting Of cigarettes tp local service members stationed throughout Delaware; 2006 - A detachment shipped gift parcels consisting Of cigars tp local service members stationed throughout New York City; 2008 - Another detachment transported gift baskets fullof food and drinks tp local service members stationed throughout Northern California; 2009 - An all-island voyage transporting cratesfullof cookies and candy tp various military stations across the USVI followed by distribution amongst servicemen located ashore

Desert Hot Springs is a small town located in Inyo County, California, about an hour and a half outside of Los Angeles. The springs were first discovered in 1877 by prospectors looking for gold and copper asteroids in the Sleepy Hollow area of present-day Desert Hot Springs. The town was founded on July 22, 1879 by John Sutter and his brother David Sutter. It was named after the springs themselves because they created a hot spring complex near the springs that could provide temporary relief from the Mojave Desert heat. The original population of Desert Hot Springs was just six people when it was founded. By 1890, the population had grown to 100 people. Over time, desertification caused the population to decline until it reached its low point around 1930, when it consisted of just 15 people. However, over time, there has been an increase in business activity at the springs due to growing tourism interests in nearby Yosemite National Park and Los Angeles County. As a result of this growth and development, Desert Hot Springs has seen an influx of new residents over recent years as well as an increase in cultural attractions such as art galleries and restaurants that focus on local cuisine or history related to the springs themselves.
Desert Hot Springs is a popular tourist destination in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. The springs were discovered in 1879 by George A. Smith and named for James H. Desert, the first director of the Bureau of Mines in Nevada Territory.
