The Coast Guard has been providing service to the people of Dinuba since 1919. The first coast guard station in Dinuba was established on October 10, 1919. In 1951, the Department of Defense donated a helicopter to the Coast Guard for use as a search and rescue unit. The Coast Guard Station Dinuba became operational on February 4, 1952. The helicopter squadron was activated on May 1, 1957 and continued to serve until December 1970 when it was replaced by an airplane squadron. The Coast Guard Helicopter Squadron was disbanded on October 3, 1978 due to budgetary reasons. In 1984, the Department of Homeland Security donated two boats (the "Cove" and "Hercules") to the Coast Guard for use in homeland security purposes. These boats were used until 1992 when they were decommissioned due to budget cuts. In 1992, another boat (the "Perch") was donated by the City of San Diego and is currently used by the Coast Guard Auxiliary with assistance from local businesses for Search and Rescue operations off island beaches during high tides or storm events. On July 13th, 1997, within hours after Hurricane Agnes made landfall in Northern California; members of the Desert Fire Control District responded quickly to a reported oil spill from ahemi-tanker near Point Conception about 8 miles south southeast of San Pedro Harbor in Santa Barbara County at approximately 7:00 PM PDT aboard their 494 gallon water tanker "Alaska". After initial reconnaissance determined that it did not appear that any harm had come to vessels or people ashore; all personnel then boarded `Alaska` proceeded tow her position northward towards Point Conception where she arrived at approximately 9:00 PM PDT while still listing severely from damage caused by`Agnes`. Alarmed at this situation; Californian state troopers boarded ` Alaska`, successfully removed all oil which had spread throughout her hull causing extensive fire damage amidships as well as flooding both engine rooms forward aft belowdecks whereupon ` Alaska` finally anchored Steady WTG #1 making port 5 nm NNW point Conception Light House

Dinuba is a town in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 1,915 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego metropolitan area. Dinuba was founded in 1876 by prospectors and miners who were looking for rich gold deposits in what is now known as the Gold Country. The name Dinuba comes from "Doña Ana," or "Lady Anza." Dinuba became an incorporated city on February 14, 1912 after it passed a referendum to do so. The city had been founded by Deputy Mayor Wm Halsey Young and City Engineer C.F. Smith under the leadership of Vice Mayor Walter Lippincott and then-Councilman Willis Hodgson The first post office opened in Dinuba on December 15, 1876 (the date remains commemorated on a plaque outside of City Hall). The name of the first postmaster was Jno Pughsborough (1851-1925). In 1907, Dinuba voters passed a resolution ratifying the establishment of another municipal government within Imperial County bequeathing it to their new City Council which operated with three members instead of five as originally envisioned.
