Navy gifts have been a part of the Dinuba community for many years. The first gift from the United States Navy to the town was a torpedo boat in 1922. The ship, USS Ponce, served as a patrol vessel and training center for local sailors. In 1939, the town received another gift when the USNS Los Angeles arrived with fuel and supplies for coastal communities in California. It was during this time that Dinuba became known as "the City of Fuel." The United States Navy again bestowed its largesse on Dinuba in 1945 when it donated two submarines- USS Swenzenhofer and USS Matsuoka- to be used as barracks and guesthouses at Naval Station Miramar in San Diego. It was during this time that Naval Station Miramar became one of the largest naval installations in California. Since then, navy gifts have come frequently to Dinuba. In 1997, we received our first helicopter! In 2000, we received our second helicopter! And now we are enjoying our third helicopter! These helicopters are essential for policing and disaster relief throughout our community. They also bring smiles to people's faces every time they use them!

Dinuba is a small town in the California Central Valley, located in Mono County. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. The name of the town originates from Spanish meaning "Island of the Dinobuses". It is one of two towns in Mono County and is named after its only physical watercourse- Dinuba Creek. The first European to visit Dinuba was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 30, 1542 when he sighted an Islet off the coast of San Francisco Bay and thought it must be an Islet of Catalina Island because there were no other islands in that area. He named it Isla de las Nieves (Island of Tears). After visiting it again five years later, he decided that this was not an Islet but rather part of El Salvador because there was no such island then. In 1769, Gaspar de Portolá discovered and mapped El Dorado Hills which led to his discovery of Los Angeles Peninsula. This event made landfall on southern California whereupon Captain Anastasio Gomez de Encalada took possession over what would become Dinuba Creek in 1821 as part as Rancho San José del Monte y Santa Anita near present day Fresno, California In 1847–48, prospectors discovered gold near current day Redding while exploring for a new route to Sacramento through Mono County. As a result, many people set up camp along Dinuba Creek before moving downriver during early winter season to claim property northward into Sacramento Valley. The following year prospectors returned south from Gold Rush era and found quartz veins bearing silver ore near present day Sutterville with potential for mining operations but did not start productive mining until 1860 when David Leslie constructed a mill on stream below today's town limits which commenced production powering local electrical grids until 1929 when the plant burned down due to vandalism by vandals A post office called Dryden opened in 1903; however it closed within 2 years due to lack of mail service from nearby Amherstburg Dinuba remained unincorporated until 1923 when it became part as part of ghost town designation given by Fish & Game Commission while investigating reports OF FALSE LAND CLAIMS IN THE AREA FROM 1890 THROUGH 1920 . At that time all residences had been abandoned or left uninhabited due to various reasons including drought conditions caused byashing rains events during previous years
