Dixon, California is a small town in the Inland Empire of Southern California. It is located on the east side of San Bernardino County and within easy driving distance of Los Angeles and Orange County. The population was 2,147 at the 2010 census. Dixon's only industry is agriculture. However, the Dixon Army Depot provides an important source of local employment for many locals. The depot closed its doors in 2013 but has been used as a civilian training ground by various entities since then. The first military deployment to Dixon took place on October 14th, 1875 when United States Marines arrived to help garrison Rancho San Jacinto during the Mexican-American War. On November 3rd, 1875, Ulysses S Grant arrived in Dixon with his army to take part in the Battle of Cerro Gordo. The battle resulted in a decisive victory for the Ulysses S. Grant army and demonstrated that American forces could still hold their own against numerically superior Mexican forces. This event helped boost morale among American troops stationed in Southern California and setthe standard for future military deployments to this area

Dixon is part of the larger Reno-Salinas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Dixon was first inhabited by the Mono people in what is now southern Nevada and eastern Arizona. They traveled along the San Andreas Fault to find food and water supplies. In 1845, they founded what is now Dixon on a rise overlooking Owens Valley, making it their new home. Dixon's early growth came from its position as a stop on stagecoach routes between Northern California and Southern Nevada. It also became an important market for local farmers and ranchers who grew crops such as corn, beans, wheat, hay, apples, potatoes and other vegetables. In 1892, Dixon saw its biggest development when it became the county seat of Mono County.etta later served as the capital of Carson City until 1905 when that city merged with Reno to form Reno-Salinas metropolitan statistical area
When the United States Army was founded in 1775, it consisted of only a small number of officers and men. The first American military campaign took place in Rhode Island in 1776. The task of organizing and commandeering resources from the British military was daunting, but the troops acquitted themselves well under the guidance of their first general, George Washington. In 1809, General John C. Fremont led an expedition against Mexico City which proved to be one of the most successful U.S. campaigns of that era. After Mexican independence was gained in 1821, American forces were again deployed to fight for Spanish-held territory in Central America; this time they succeeded in driving out the Spaniards and establishing control over what are now Guatemala and El Salvador. During World War I (1914-18), troops were mobilized primarily for economic reasons rather than combat; however, they did participate actively in trench warfare on both sides of the conflict. The First World War provided a unique opportunity for American soldiers to learn firsthand how to work as part of a team and utilized new battlefield technologies such as tanks and airplane bombing; these lessons were later applied during World War II (1939-1945). In total, more than 1 million Americans served in uniform during World War I; however, due to health concerns associated with artillery fire (eastern Europe had been ravaged by war]) many servicemen never returned home after active service ended on September 2nd 1918 “without distinction or credit” according to General Order No., 947 issued by then Commanding General USAst Corps Headquarters at Camp Blandford since there was no way for them to be awarded ribbons or other honors while still serving overseas!
