Maxwell House Coffee was founded by John Maxwell in 1916. He began selling ground beans direct to consumers across America. Later on, he opened a shop located at 5th and Main Streets in Dixon which served as his headquarters for many years. Maxwell House continued to be a prominent name within the coffee industry until it closed its doors in 1984! World Wide Coffee Roasters was founded by Jann Wenner back in 1976! Dixon, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California located about 60 miles east of Sacramento. Dixon was founded in 1868 by Captain George Dixon and his father, Augustus Dixon. The original homestead was built on the banks of the Rogue River. In 1871, Captain Dixon and his wife, Lavinia, moved to what is now known as Dixon City because it offered more desirable land for settlement. The city was named after Captain George Dixon's older brother-in-law who had been born there. The first post office in Dixon opened in 1872. By 1900, the population had increased to 1,000 residents and the town had a school and two churches. In 1911,Captain George Dixon died at the age of 83 years; his wife continued to live until her death in 1932. They were buried together at Mountain View Cemetery. A plaque commemorating their lives is located adjacent to their gravesite. Today, Dixon has a small but growing economy based primarily on agriculture and ranching activities as well as tourism attractions such as its scenic rivers and desert landscapes

In 1892, Dixon incorporated as an independent city with a population of 1002 people. The city experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century due to its importance as a port on the San Francisco Bay Bridge and its location near major highways that connected eastern California with other parts of North America. By 1915, Dixon had become one of Californias largest cities with a total population of 12,000 people. In 1916, Dixon was renamed Millbrae after American industrialist John Dickson Millbrae. During World War II, Dixon became an important naval base due to its position at the mouth of Yerba Buena Island on San Francisco Bay and its close proximity to Japan's Imperial Navy fleet stationed there. As part of Project Mineta, which aimed to increase United States production capacity in wartime munitions production, Dixon also played an important role in developing new oil facilities and research laboratories during this time period. The post-war years were difficult for Dixon City; social tensions emerged over economic changes brought about by technological advances such as television and automobiles while crime rates increased overall throughout California due to overcrowding caused by postwar immigration patterns.
