Williamson named his new town after himself – "East Palo Alto" – and laid out a street grid that still exists today. During World War II, East Palo Alto served as headquarters for Naval Intelligence Division (NID) 2 (Code name: "Phoenix"). NID2 operated B-29 Superfortresses during World War II under Project Mockingbird which resulted in many lives being saved bythe USAAF over Japan. In 1957–1958, East Palo Alto became home to Lockheed Martin'sRedwood City facility when Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group Redwood City moved from San Francisco to nearby Menlo Park

However, due to this expensive price tag, people were only able to purchase small amounts of roasted beans at a time. Eventually, Dutch brewers started exporting their roasted beans all over the world. This led to the development of different roasted bean types which became popular around the world. East Palo Alto was founded in 1894 by George Washington Goodwin and his family. Goodwin was a lawyer who moved to East Palo Alto from San Francisco. He purchased land on the east side of University Avenue, near the present-day intersection of El Camino Real and University Parkway, and began to build a home. The first house was built in 1896. Goodwin's son, George Washington Goodwin Jr., also bought land in the area and started a business selling goods from his farm. In 1908, Goodwin donated $5,000 to establish East Palo Alto Junior College. In 1916, he donated another $10,000 for the college's construction project. The college opened its doors in 1918 and became an accredited institution of higher learning with a boarding program that year.
