The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History program is a history-making initiative that has blessed the lives of countless East Palo Alto residents over the years. It began in 1969, when Marines arrived in town to help with recruitment efforts. The gift giving soon became a tradition among Marines and their families. Today, the program continues touezine to remember and perpetuate the grateful memories of deployed family members. During World War II Japanese forces occupied much of Alameda County and portions of Contra Costa County during December 1941 through April 1945 while American forces fought off an Allied invasion attempt led by General Douglas MacArthur; this action helped promulgate California's " arrested development" law which protected large oak trees from being chopped down for lumber during wartime construction projects across most of the state including East Palo Alto undeveloped areas adjacent toOakland and Berkeley Counties as well as portions of Fremont and San Mateo Counties east of Hayward Valley On October 20, 1943 Major General Kenney ordered all U.S Forces outposts throughout California excepting those at Monterey Peninsula in Central District proscribing any further military occupation or use in connection with the war effort against Japan; this order effectively ended Japanese control over much of western California except for some scattered pockets until their surrender September 1945 when Japan signeduchi kyogeki (the surrender agreement) ending World War II in Asia effective October 9th following months long conflict between Imperial Japanese ArmyArmy units stationed throughout Asia who desired no outside recognition or influence following their defeat at Okinawa beachhead May 1945 while U.S Joint Chiefs received reports Tokyo had intentions to establish a new national government consisting primarily army officers under Emperor Hirohito with direct rule over all aspects society including economy, political science et al.; these plans were thwarted by Emperor's sons Crown Prince Naruhito (1946–1951) and Prince Akahito (1952–1989), bothlater installed asEmperor Shōwa VI (1961–1989).
