The El Cajon Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's Ninth Wing, which is responsible for providing air support in the San Diego metropolitan area. The wing was founded on August 1, 1947 and has since grown to include three wings; the 9th Fighter Wing (F-15C/D), the 419th Airlift Wing (A-10 Thunderbolt II/AV-8B Harrier), and the 432d Intelligence Squadron (MI(IS)). In 1990, the United States Air Forces Europe was activated at El Cajon AFB under command of Eighth Air Force. This unit was responsible for overall air defense of NATO member countries in Southwest Europe. On October 15, 1993, elements of Sixth Special Operations Command were transferred from RAF Lakenheath AB England to El Cajon AFB as part of Operation Neptune's Spear III. This operation aimed to remove arms from Libyan militias fighting against a UN embargo. As part of global operations against terrorism beginning in 2001, members of both Ninth and Tenth Wings simultaneously participated in Operation Enduring Freedom I and II within their respective wings' boundaries. In September 2006 it was announced that Ninth Wing would be transitioning into an all fighter squadron structure with the addition of F-16Cs from Davis-Monthan AFB Arizona effective September 2007 - this change is intended to improve lethality by allowing fighters operating together more effectively as well as reduce wear on aircraft due to collisions between planes sharing airspace. A detachment assigned directly to each wing will provide training and exercises with other squadrons while continuing mission support activities such as refueling missions or providing flying backup for deployments elsewhere like Iraq or Afghanistan fall within these squadron detachments' capabilities

El Cajon, California is a town in San Diego County, California. The population was 52,535 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of San Diego and is bordered by Imperial County to the east, Riverside County to the south-west, and Manzanita National Monument to the north-west. The name "Cajon" comes from Mission San José de la Loma de los Padres Puritano (1817), which was founded by Franciscan missionaries under Mexican rule. The mission was abandoned in 1847 and its ruins remain today in El Cajon. The name "Cajon" also refers to Rancho La Paloma del Norte (1899) which was part of Rancho Santa Fe land taken over by U.S. forces during World War II. In 1897, two brothers named William Hines and Harry Chandler purchased 1/2 mile (3 km) of what would become El Cajon from Juan Pérez for $1 per acre ($27 per hectare). With this purchase they laid out a town on an existing rancho that had been used as a grazing area for cattle since 1836. They called their new community “Caja” because it resembled a door handle or keyhole. Their first store opened in 1898, but it closed within months due to lack of customers. In 1901 they built the first post office at 6th Street and Saugus Avenue; however it closed within one year due to low mail traffic and high postage rates charged by mail carrier Los Angeles interests consortiums competing with their own company Postmaster General George Stephenson's Southern Pacific Railroad service between LA and Sacramento! William Hines served as Mayor from 1902-1904; he was succeeded by his son Harry A., who served until his death in 1925 at age 79 years old after eight terms as Mayor; then came his wife Nellie Waddell Hines until her death in 1951 after serving three terms as Mayor before retiring effective December 4th, 1959 effective upon her husband's passing away! On January 6th 1915 El Cajon became an incorporated municipality when all towns within San Diego were reorganized following state law passed that year governing municipal incorporation among cities with populations of 10 thousand or more residents! When Navy Air Station North Island opened adjacent to Municipal Airport on October 17th 1941 civilian flights ceased operations consequent upon Battle of Midway opening!! After World War II ended most military activity left El Cajon while many businesses vacated leaving downtown filled with stores operated independently ranging from Takelabs Leather & Hardware store operators closing up shop early last year followed soon thereafter by several others including Girders Sporting Goods Company Closed September 30th 2017 followed shortly thereafter Artis Jewelry store finally closing abruptly late last year

In 2011, the air force donated nine C-130J Hercules planes to Jordan as part of Jordanian assistance for Syrian refugees fleeing their country's civil war. The air force has also given away more than 1,000 items ranging from radios and books to children's toys and games over the years. Gifts have come in all shapes and sizes; from small donations made at squadron level up through large contributions made by entire wings or brigades involved in missions or deployments abroad. Some examples include: giving away surplus food that is collected during military exercises or functions; sending homemade cookies on deployment days; or even providing free haircuts to members of service communities overseas who may need them most during peacetime moments (e.g., while stationed ashore). One such tradition that began long ago is called "Giftgate." GiftGate refers to when officers or enlisted members bring home any new gear they've acquired while deployed – whether it be combat boots, rifles or vehicles-and present them to their unit mates along with anything old they've stored away like kitchen appliances or toolboxes/pens! El Cajon (pronounced "ka-joon") is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 57,373 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of San Diego County and part of the larger Imperial Valley metropolitan area. The first people to live in El Cajon were the Tongva people who built their villages on Rancho Encinas near Mission Bay in 1828. In 1856, La Paz citizens bought Rancho Las Palmas from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $500,000; it had been held by his ancestors since 1770. The town site was chosen because of its convenient location on a bend in Rialto Creek and its lack of hills or other obstructions that would prevent fortification. At first, El Cajon consisted of just a few houses and a small store. In 1875, James Irvine opened his famous Disneyland theme park located adjacent to Rancho las Palmas after securing approval from then-Governor Manuel Miranda for an amusement park within county limits. The city grew quickly around this new development with businesses like harbor leave and railroad ties being made into homes. By 1907 El Cajon had over 100 residents and a millinery shop employing twelve women while five banks managed accounts with over $10 million in assets!
