The Coast Guard has been providing service to the El Cajon community since 1912. The Coast Guard Station El Cajon was established in 1912 and is one of the oldest and most active stations within the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. In 1951, the Coast Guard developed a gift history program in order to commemorate the centennial of their service. The program began with a presentation by Commandant Harry Ladd to members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on November 8, 1951. During this presentation, Commander Ladd explained that the Coast Guard had originated from maritime law enforcement but had come into being as a response to an alarming increase in smuggling activity along California's coastline. The need for a dedicated coast guard unit stemmed from these events, and Commodore John Witherspoon designated April 6th, 1912 as National Coastal Security Day in order to recognize this new branch of service. Throughout their century-long history, various gifts have been given to the Coast Guard Station El Cajon by individuals throughout San Diego County. Some examples include donations of clothing and accessories, tools and equipment donated through raffles or contests, furniture and appliances donated through auctions or fundraisers, and even ships used for coastal patrols. Gifts have also been made conditional upon specific goals or objectives being met such as building an artificial beach on shoreline property or furnishing a local school with supplies for teachers’ classrooms. Today, there are over 350 commissioned officers working at the Coast Guard Station El Cajon including both Regular Officers (RO) and Honor Guards (HH). As part of National Coastal Security Day festivities on April 6th each year, all Active Duty members are required to dress up in period clothing and attend ceremonies held at Tower Pointe Marine Park located adjacent to Portofino Beach south of downtown San Diego before parade across town down First Street towards Balboa Pier where they will return home after enjoying refreshments aloft at North Landing Marina prior to returning back inside Tower Pointe Marine Park for dinner that night!

The El Cajon Coast Guard Station grew out of a need to provide law enforcement and emergency services along the southern coast of San Diego County. The station was first established in 1923 as part of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. In 1974, the Coast Guard absorbed the Sheriff's Department and became an agency within the California State Department of Public Safety. In 2016, Customs and Border Protection merged with state agencies to form California's Department of Homeland Security. As part of this merger, the El Cajon Coast Guard Station was transferred from DHS to CBP.
El Cajon, California is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 176,574 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of San Diego and its adjacent county of Orange. El Cajon sits on an estuary that forms part of the Pacific Ocean. The city's economy depends largely on medical technology and other scientific research institutions located nearby in Poway, La Mesa and Carlsbad; as well as manufacturing heavy industry including shipbuilding and vehicle production. The original mission were to build a fort to protect Mission San Juan Capistrano from pirates passing through the area before they could pillage the missions supplies. At first there was only one small platform with no walls or defenses, but over time more platforms were built until an entire system had been erected by 1824. Today visitors can see several cannons still standing from this period including the early 1800s USS Constitution Museum inside Fort Point Park (the former site of Naval Base Coronado). The growth of El Cajon slowed during World War II due to lack of munitions available for shipment into Northern California; nevertheless, El Cajon played an important role in both wars as it served as a major air-base for both American and British planes flying across North America Combat acts such as Pearl Harbor were often conducted from here which led to nickname "POW Island" among locals because so many military personnel died when aircraft crashed or exploded during these operations In recent years El Cajon has experienced strong economic development based upon its status as one of two main sites for high-tech companies working with Google Earth technology developing new ways to improve mapping products for personal navigation around urban areas; along with Lockheed Martin Heavy Industries who are responsible for producing tanks, artillery rounds and armored vehicles within their massive Central Valley factory complex known locally simply as "The Rock". This growth has brought jobs both direct (high-technology positions) and indirect (manufacturing roles) right downwind of downtown El Cajon creating what some have dubbed "CanyonWalk." employment totals are now approaching 300 employed directly by Google while more than 100 businesses operate within walking distance powered by energy provided by PG&E's Nieto power plant In addition to all this activity there is also growing artistic activity - especially music - starting near Interstate 5 southbound just past University Avenue towards Jordan Ranch where live/DJ sets take place monthly late into the night becoming known collectively under the acronym "Gruntsfest" There are also annual events like Comic Con International which brings together artists, fans and exhibitors from all over Southern California each July 3rd preceding large food trucks parked along I-5 outside Convention Center gates just prior to tourist season

El Cajon is a small town in San Diego County, California, United States. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of San Diego and is part of the North Park area. The population was 7,815 at the 2010 census. El Cajon's history dates back to 1851 when it was known as "Caja Mesa". The name may be derived from an Ohlone word meaning place where hemlock trees grow abundantly. The first settler in what is now El Cajon was John Sutter who arrived in 1847. By 1850, there were over 20 families living here and by 1860 there were 100 residents. By 1870, El Cajon had become a quiet agricultural community with only one store and a few homes. Two factors – railroad construction nearby and anti-immigrant sentiment across America – caused much change during this time. In 1886, entrepreneur Julius Rosenwald purchased 3/4 acre (1 ha) of land east of Main Street for $50 from Juan Rodriguez de Portillo y Costilla; this became Rosenwald Boulevard which still exists today as a main thoroughfare through El Cajon center today
El Cajon, California was founded on November 3, 1853 by Captain James W. Cooke and his wife Anna Maria. The first post office in El Cajon opened on December 1, 1853. The town was named for John Cajon, a Mexican military captain who had fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1870, the population of El Cajon had reached 514 residents and it became a city on March 15, 1876.
