The first espresso machine was invented in Italy in 1795 by Giovanni Branca. After America became an independent country, coffee began being exported to other countries such as France and Spain. In 1819, British soldiers discovered caffeine after raiding a Spanish plantation near Buenos Aires and returning home with some beans they had bought along the way. They started smuggling caffeine into England through ports like Bristol and Liverpool for sale to European smugglers who traffic café beans across borders illegally). In 1847, Nicholas-Jacques Conte developed a machine that could make perfect espresso shots at home using ground beans instead of fresh beans given away by baristas at cafes . This gave birth to what is now known as espresso machines or Italianos (this term originated from Italian immigrants who came over during World War II). El Cajon is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 68,594 at the 2010 census. El Cajon is located on the eastern edge of the San Diego Bay and it is adjacent to Imperial Beach and Scripps Ranch. In addition to its location on the bay, El Cajon enjoys Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. It has been part of California since 1821 when it was part of Mexico City. The first Europeans to visit what is now El Cajon were American traders in 1769–1770 who named it after Captain Juan Bautista Cabrillo's ship "San Carlos". The area that now includes El Cajon was purchased from Mission Santa Ana de la Laguna by Californios in 1821 as part of a land grant to José Ruiz de Monterey. Mexican troops burned down buildings in San Diego during their occupation, but no settlement materialized until 1827 when Francisco Peralta granted exploratory privileges for a mission called Nuestra Señora del Carmen de las Nieves (Our Lady of Carmelite Convent). A adobe chapel and school were built within 10 years and by 1840 there were over 100 residents living here under Spanish rule. In 1851 President Pierce appointed James Krieger as surveyor general for California which included all of modern-day San Diego County; his survey map shows an unincorporated community at what is now Fairfield Road/Cambria Drive near what is today's Del Mar Heights neighborhood east of Interstate 810. On October 15, 1851, Krieger filed his report on Mission San Diego de Alcántara with US District Judge Amos Tilton; this document designated present-day El Cajon as part of what would become known as Alta California Colony (later known as Southern California). At this time there were only about 30 people living here including 6 Native Americans: Llewellynufé ("Laughing Dove"), Captán Manuel Carrillo ("Ramona" or "Chiquita"), José Antonio Guerrero y Costilla("Potato Joe"), Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla("Don Miguel") and Joaquín Carpio Sosa y Morales("Hijo de Joaquín"). On January 16,1852 Governor Dominguez ordered Federal troops stationed at Los Angeles under General Tomás Burgos to move into southern San Diego County; these troops established Camp Kearny south of town on April 14th where they erected blockhouses and began surveying the area around present day El Cajon Harbor for possible military installation or ranchland nomination purposes. On June 3rd US Army Major Samuel Jenson arrived at Camp Kearny with orders to open negotiations regarding grants or annexation by Alta California Colony; these talks failed due to Jenson's belief that any such annexation would bereversely motivated givenURRENT White supremacy in America relative to Mexican power within Alta California Colony...On July 25th US Army Major John Bidwell arrived at Kearny with orders similar to those given earlier but with one major exception: he was authorized to annex any unclaimed land east of Coyote Creek (northwest corner of present day Scripps Ranch) into AltaCalifornia Colony if he found suitable sites...Alameda Valley became an enlarged portionof AltaCalifornia Colony on December 12th 1850 when voters approved a measure creating new counties within old Fresno & Kings Counties... voted notto annex Coyote Creek onto currentScripps Ranch because they considered it agricultural too far north)... operationsatCamp Kearny continued until early November 1860 after which all troops Abandonedtown.. The town was named after General José Antonio El Cajon who had led the Mexican-American War of 1847. The first post office in El Cajon opened on October 3, 1853. In 1862, the United States Post Office moved from San Diego to El Cajon and it remained there until it was abolished in 1865. In 1870, the first railroad station at present-day El Cajon opened. The first store in town was built in 1872 by J.W. Slater and later became known as Slater's Drug Store. In 1886, a sanitarium opened called Mount Carmel Asylum which served as a center for mental patients until 1915 when it closed down due to budget cuts. The economy of El Cajon changed with the opening of Southern Pacific Railroad in 1902 which spurred development including the construction of a naval shipyard and an airport nearby which is now known as San Diego International Airport
