This act started what has been called “the first modern shooting club in El Cajon.” The idea behind this club was to provide opportunities for members to shoot each other with only pistols instead of rifles or shotguns. In 1903, another El Cajon resident, Harry Emerson Fosdick (1879-1967), donated a rifle to the local NRA chapter in memory of his late father who had been an avid shooter and member since 1896! This event marked the beginning of Gun Lover events throughout Southern California!

The name "Cajon" comes from the Spanish word "calabozo" meaning an area covered in sandstone and siltstones. At its peak, El Cajon had over 20,000 residents. Today, it has around 10,000 residents. The history of El Cajon began with the construction of the Panama-Pacific International Bridge in 1942. After the bridge was completed, many soldiers who served in World War II moved to El Cajon to live and work. The first resident of El Cajon was George Fenton who bought land in 1922. Many other people followed suit over the years and El Cajon became a small town. During the 1960s and 1970s, El Cajon experienced several economic fluctuations which led to many changes within its community including a decline in manufacturing jobs and an increase in service jobs such as medical care or hotelkeeping. However, recent growth has returned many factory jobs back to El Cajon while also creating new businesses that have helped contribute to the local economy such as technology companies or restaurants
The city of El Cajon is located in Southern California, on the border of San Diego and Imperial Counties. The population was 68,044 as of 2010. The town started out as a small settlement near the confluence of the San Andreas Fault and Santa Ana River in 1847. It became an incorporated village in 1851, and then a city in 1912.
