In 1915, the California Legislature passed a bill that allowed the United States Navy to deploy warships in El Centro. This permitted the Navy to station ships in the city during wartime and provide protection for citizens. The deployment of destroyers and submarines into downtown El Centro was a sign of military might that helped keep residents safe during World War I. Since then, navy deployments have become common occurrences in El Centro. In 2003, USS John S. McCain deployed to support Operation Neptune's Spear, which was an operation led by Iraq against Kurdish forces. The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in town to help with security and supply operations. The Navy has also deployed warships to support different missions, such as Operation Ocean Shield in 2011 and Operation Neptune's Spear again in 2013. Naval Base Ventura County has been home to several vessels since it opened its doors in 1951: USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 77), USS Enterprise (CVN 71), USS Sequoyah (LHD 9), USS John F Kennedy (CVN 76) and now HMS Warrior (D8). Since its inception as the first navy in English America, the Navy has been committed to coastal defense against potential threats from abroad as well as ensuring U.S. security interests at home. As part of this commitment, the navy constructs naval bases on both coasts with capabilities for hosting land ships and submarines, providing access to ports for merchant shipping, conducting Search and Rescue operations during hurricanes or other natural disasters, providing support for military exercises overseas or aboard American warships stationed off foreign shores, participating in joint counterterrorism operations with other nations such as Australia or Canada, and performing humanitarian assistance missions in times of conflict or crisis. This paper will focus on one particular aspect: gifts given to members of the navy deployed gift force. In 1812, the Constitution helped protect Mexico City during the 1812 Mexican-American War. The ship was decommissioned in 1906 and sold for scrap in 1922.
El Centro, California is a city located in Southern California. It is the seat of San Diego County and was founded on November 14, 1875, by Mexican immigrants. The population of El Centro grew to over 270,000 people by 2000. Today, El Centro is an important cultural and commercial center for the region. In addition to its role as a major metropolitan area, El Centro also contains several smaller towns that are collectively known as the San Diegans. The first European settlers in what is now El Centro were Spanish farmers who arrived in 1772. They named their new town after Santiago de Compostela – one of the apostles who traveled to Mexico City to preach Christianity. By 1875, when Californians started arriving in large numbers, El Centropa had become one of the most populous cities in America. Today’s downtown district was built up primarily during the late 1800s and early 1900s as a result of growth in business activity related tooil production and other related industries. Many historic buildings still stand today such as The Alhambra Theatre (1895), The Army & Navy Club (1902), and Hotel Rincon de la Vieja (1915). One of the most iconic features of downtown El CentRO is its pedestrian mall which offers extensive shopping opportunities including three blocks of high-end shops and restaurants dating back to the 1870s.

El Centro, California is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 37,621 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in San Luis Obispo County and the third-largest city in Central California after Santa Cruz and Sacramento. El Centro is located on the southern edge of San Luis Obispo County and includes most of what are now the communities of Arroyo Grande, Bella Vista, Borrego Springs, Carpinteria, Carbondale, Claremont Mesa and Friant Lake. The name "El Centro" comes from Spanish meaning "the center." The first people to live in what is now El Centro were Native American traders who traveled through this area during their migrations from east to west. In 1814 Mission Santa Isabel de la Laguna was founded by Father Jose Altamira as a mission near modern-day Paso Robles. With itsmidtown location next to two major trade routes coming into and out of Northern California—the Juan Bautista Trail ran through it and State Route 5 followed—El centro became an important commercial center for Andalusian miners who began working the goldfields in 1848. In 1853 James Wickersham built Wickersham's Store on Second Street which became one of Californias earliest businesses dynasty lasting until 1903 when it merged with Jardine & Mathews. This store was followed by several other stores throughout evolving into what we know today as El Centro's shopping district with its many large department stores including Macy's (now Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade parade grounds), Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney (now Sears Holdings), Kmart (now Kmart Canada), Fifth Avenue Department Store and others over time until those stores closed down or moved out of town during prohibition era because they did not conform to new regulations set by the Ulysses S Grant Administration that limited flooding within Cities Limits! But back to our history lesson; following World War II when El Centro exploded with newly arrived GI’s servicemen coming ashore looking for work there were rapid growth rates as new housing developments were erected along 2nd Street culminating with development around Interstate 880 called “The Zone” where thousands more residents moved into close proximity to job opportunities during peacetime but increased traffic caused these developments eventually collapsing causing lots of downtown storefronts vacant until gentrification started taking hold starting in earnest late last century resulting in some very interesting architectural gems being rescued such as The Pinnacle Tower which has been used as both a hotel/motel since 1978/79 while also hosting various cultural events related thereto such as open mic nights hosted annually at local art galleries) Downtown redevelopment continued well beyond prohibition days resulting in even more vacancy rates leading developers once again turning their attention inward finally creating today’s vibrant business districtcomplete with highrise buildings all lined up like cards on a table!
In 1847, Alta California was part of the Mexican Empire. The United States acquired it as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, in 1848. In 1850, following the Gold Rush, El Centro came into existence as a town and became an incorporated municipality on October 15, 1850. On December 12, 1860, it ceded its right to San Diego County to make way for the creation of that county.
