The El Cerrito Air Force Base gift history dates back to the early days of World War II when it was first established as a military airfield. The base was used for training, experimentation and airlift operations during the war years. The present day El Cerrito Air Force Base is home to the California Army National Guard's 159th Fighter Wing which provides fighter aviation support to local law enforcement and national defense missions. In addition, the base also houses a number of civilian agencies that use the base for purposes such as health care, education and other community services. Throughout its history, El Cerrito AFB has been a major provider of gifts to individuals and organizations in Northern California. Some of these gifts have been very practical, such as tools or equipment needed by military personnel stationed at thebase; while others have been more decorative, such as beautiful pieces of jewelry ornaments gifted by Zamora family members over time. In 1941, when El Cerrito AFB was first established, it housed only temporary barracks for American servicemen awaiting their turn in combat theaters around the world. This area now known as Gate 2A served as an officers' mess where meals were cooked on site for those who worked there from morning until night. One unique feature of this Mess was that all food came with complimentary drinks! Gate 2A later became known as "The Annex" due to its location adjacent to Headquarters Squadron (HQ) at Camp Pendleton on Marine Corps land just outside San Diego County. HQ squadron flew Consolidated B-24 Liberators from gate 2A throughout World War II providing strategic bombardment support against Nazi Germany from various airfields around Japan including Iwo Jima and Okinawa Island. During 1945 HQ squadron moved eastward to Saipan where they operated out of USS Lexington aircraft carriers en route home afterbombing Hiroshima on 7 August 1945. Gate 2A currently serves as an officer's messianic symbol not only because it once served host to Headquarters Squadron but also because so many people who worked here have left a lasting legacy behind - including several current Commander-in-Chiefs of our Military Forces!

El Cerrito is a small town in Contra Costa County, California. The population of El Cerrito was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay. The first Europeans to visit El Cerrito were Spanish missionaries in 1776. John Blythe, an American fur trader and sailor, named it after the Greek word Κερατίον (Keratinos). In 1834, Major General Nelson A. Miles founded Campo de Francia on what is now called Point Reyes Peninsula; later that year he named it El Cerrito for his friend José Piña del Retablo. In 1846, Californian Governor Pio Pico took possession of part of Alta California from Mexico and established Rancho San Pablo east of modern-day El Cerrito. On 1 January 1848, Mexican nationals who had been living in East Contra Costa County petitioned President Polk to create a new county in Alta California – East Los Angeles County – within Rancho San Pablo lands; this was done by Resolution 4609 (Draper), which became law on 20 January 1848. It was not until October 16, 1850 when lava began flowing from Mount Stromboli into nearby San Fernando Valley and created the Caldera field that residents finally realized they were living near Mount Diablo! On October 25th 1860 during the American Civil War Captain James Cook anchored offshore about ½ mile from shore at "Blackshear" Cove as part of HMS Beagle Expedition commanded by Rear Admiral Robert FitzRoy: he landed 400 men under Captains Arguelles and Farragut with supplies including provisions for 2 years ashore before sailing back to England laden with gold watches and other valuable items! Captain Cook's discoveries helped ignite America's love affair with sea travel! For many years there has been a celebration each July 4th known as "El Cerveza Day." This is an appreciation for all things sparkling - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are accepted! Festivities include concerts throughout the week ending with a parade through downtown followed by fireworks over The Golden Gate Bridge just before dark! As if that weren't enough excitement some special events also occur such as car rallies/rides etc., carnivals etc., making it one fun-filled summer weekend you won't want to miss!

El Cerrito, California is a census-designated place in San Mateo County, California. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward (SF/OAK) MSA. The first people to live in what is now El Cerrito were Native American people who hunted and collected wild plants and animals in the area today known as Point Reyes National Seashore. In 1846, Commodore John D. Sloat organized an expedition to explore the Bay Area for new property grants. On July 24th 1846, he named Point Reyes Station after Captain George Vancouver's ship Discovery which had arrived there earlier that year from England with three ships carrying crew and supplies for exploringPoint Reyes Peninsula on behalf of Spain. In 1849, a group of men led by José María Narváez founded Rancho Rincon de la Salinas on what are now Garfield Heights and El Cerrito Streets near present-day Donner Street and Third Avenue. The rancho was part of Donner Ranch which extended into parts of Marin County. In 1851 Juan Bautista Vasquez sold Rincon de la Salinas to James Wolkowicz who ran it as a small hay farm until 1862 when it became one of several ranches granted by Governor Jardines to Manuel Nieto during his visit to Northern California in 1861). In 1865, following the Mexican-American War, Mexico ceded Alta California including El Cerrito Valley to the United States under Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo; however portions of el cerrito valley remained with Mexico until 1932 when they were acquired by San Francisco Municipal Railway (SFMR). SFR also acquired some land east of Guadalupe Hidalgo that formed North Beach neighborhood today’s Sunset District . After World War II many homes were built along Franklin Street between 4th Ave./Pleasanton Rd./University Ave., currently home to BART stations BART/El Sobrante (east), Daly City/Hawthorne (west), Millbrae (northwest),Bernal Heights/Parkside(southwest)
The development of El Cerrito began in the 1870s with the construction of a small rancho by José Joaquin Herrera. In 1878, a group of Spanish-American settlers from San Francisco founded the town on a hill overlooking the city. The town rapidly grew, and in 1889 it was incorporated as part of Oakland. El Cerrito experienced rapid growth during World War II, with an increase in population from 5,000 to over 100,000 people. The city's infrastructure was developed during this time including a water system, schools and other public facilities. After the war, El Cerrito experienced significant decline due to economic factors and suburbanization. However, recent improvements have seen some resurgence in business activity and population.
